AppFormix and Intel to Root-out Noisy Neighbor in Cloud

FREMONT, CA: AppFormix has incorporated Intel Resource Director Technology (Intel RDT) into its performance monitoring platform to root out the “noisy neighbors” issue in the multi-tenant cloud environment.  Furthermore, this recently launched Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v4 product family flaunts the Intel RDT feature.

With AppFormix software and the Intel Xenon processor E5 v4 family, the cloud operators will have the freedom as well as control to monitor application performance at the processing level. This collaboration provides the users more visibility and control over application performance in real time.

"Multi-tenant production environments pose a difficult challenge for cloud operators,” said Richard Uhlig, Director of Systems and Software Research at Intel Labs. He further adds that, “Ensuring consistent performance is not an easy task in an environment where many resources are shared. Additional monitoring insight and control over how shared processor resources such as the L3 cache are used is important, and Intel RDT coupled with AppFormix software provides an important example of how to combine real-time visualization, monitoring and control features into an orchestration toolkit to enhance operator visibility, telemetry and prioritization capabilities."

The association of AppFormix software with Intel RDT includes features such as Cache Monitoring Technology (CMT), Cache Allocation Technology (CAT), Code and Data Prioritization (CDP) and Memory Bandwidth Monitoring (MBM) that is not available in any other platforms. The tie-up promises its customers to help receive more gains in software defined sectors.

The solution enables the user to detect and mitigate the noisy neighbors problems and helps prioritize important containers, VMs or applications. Further, it advances the workflow among software developers and infrastructure maintainers in the current collaborative DevOps landscape.
