Novumind Inc., one of the top innovators in the full-stack Artificial Intelligence technologies, announced its collaboration with Shennong Supercomputer Project in the city of Chengdu a couple of months back. Named after the legendary figure Shennong who is credited for inventing Chinese medicine, Shennong Supercomputer uses powerful software developed by Novumind dedicated to training AI deep learning models for diagnostic imaging and medical research on its NovuStar distributed AI training platform.

The CEO and the founder of Novumind, Dr. Ren Wu, were involved in the design of the Shennong system and were in Chengdu for the public announcement and demonstration. Dr. Wu commented that the vast amount of data available, from many years worth of medical records and images, are critical for training AI models and will drive the deployment of AI solutions. Dr. Wu demonstrated a benchmark test showing how the system was able to train a state-of-the-art medical imaging model within 30 minutes comparing it with other systems that would take loads of time to run on other systems.

AI is already helping doctors and revolutionizing healthcare by improving the speed and accuracy of diagnoses. At West China Hospital of Sichuan University, a guided endoscopy system powered by Novumind technology has shown a better detection of diseased tissue compared to the doctor's naked eye. But, in the future, AI can bring out the true skills of doctors rather than just assisting them.

"AI effectively amplifies the reach and effectiveness of the medical profession. AI can be trained on deep data sets of historical data and diagnoses that were performed by skilled physicians. Then, these AI tools can be deployed in all corners of the world, bringing improved healthcare to many people,” said Dr. Chengwei Tang, Professor at Sichuan University and President of the China Society of Gastroenterology.
