PilotBrief Fabricates 'Connected Cockpit' via Inflight Connectivity Solution

FREMONT, CA: WSI Pilotbrief, provider of IP based solution from The Weather Company has now updated new features through an aircraft’s Inflight connectivity solution. Pilots in the past never had the opportunity to use the internet in the cockpit. Pilots were not given access to important and critical data like detailed weather forecasts and real time turbulence reports; but now times have changed, airlines are embracing “Connected cockpit”.

WSI PilotBrief offers internet based app for tablet computers and weather data to a pilot’s Apple ipad or Microsoft Surface tablet that can be viewed via tablet based app. PilotBrief displays aviation weather, airspace notifications and flight plans graphically on an interactive workspace to pilots and crew members, allowing them to evaluate and make the right decision.  “There has been convergence of factors, including tablet computing, connectivity and the internet of things that have enabled a revolution in real time weather data for pilots and that is a real transformation” asserts Mark Miller, General Manager of Aviation at The Weather Company.

With the aircraft’s Satcom solution, PilotBrief is able to deliver more weather information to pilots. They can also extract real-time weather briefings, create and file Digital Flight Releases (DFR), access en-route and approach plate charts right from the cockpit through the iPad.  The solution can transfer large amount of data with a limited bandwidth making it suitable for Sitcom systems.

WSI PilotBrief Optima consists of convective weather enhancement that includes: HD convective weather layers with enhanced radar; Vertically Integrated Liquid (VIL) and echotop mosaics; and global lightning network. It also features SATrad that improves safety and comfort of the passenger by offering a synthesized depiction of convection areas throughout the tropics. This assist pilots to pinpoint and avoid the areas of strongest convection.
