Rackspace Leverages AppFormix's Tools to Promote its Private Cloud
FREMONT, CA: Rackspace, a provider of hybrid clouds, recently established a partnership with AppFormix, a cloud optimization platform, to monitor and allow its performance optimization tools to the former’s private OpenStack cloud customers.
Rackspace is a provider of hybrid clouds that enable enterprises to run their workload in a public or private cloud. AppFormix is a commercial cloud technology that accords enterprise cloud operators to streamline their cloud operations and manage any OpenStack cloud. Rackspae will license AppFormix’s tools and make available to all of its private cloud customers in Rackspace to handle their clouds. The users can access Appformix’s analytics and optimization tools, real-time monitoring, and engineers of Rackspace will also use these to manage cloud for their clients.
Rackspace was the founding member of the OpenStack project, together with NASA, typically builds its own tools for managing the technical face of its cloud monitoring and it is quite unusual move in choosing AppFormix, reports Frederic Lardinois of TechCrunch. Lardinois asked Bryan Thompson, Sr. Dir., Product Management, RackSpace, what made Thompson choose AppFormix instead of building the product itself. Thompson told that the company definitely considered building its own tools. However, a team of Rackspace inspected and realized the caliber of folks who work on OpenStack private Cloud business were great and aligned to what Rackspace was trying to achieve and trying to build themselves.
That’s pretty much just the similar kind of abstract thought Lardinois hear when he inquire large companies why they adopted a start-up and Thompson acknowledge that the meant for an acquisition had definitely “cross some people’s mind.”
Sumeet Singh, CEO and Founder, AppFormix, says his company is not solely depending on OpenStack but also supports the Kubernetes container management service and visualizes that Kubernetes and OpenStack play together rather nicely these days.
Rackspace distinguishes itself from other companies in the DevOps landscape by delivering open technology solutions that align with key trends Prashnath Chadrasekar, GM, DevOps Business Segment at Rackspace.
