Sony PlayStation Network Gets Overwhelmed with DDOS

By CIOReview | Monday, September 26, 2016

FREMONT, CA: Sony PlayStation Network has been targeted with Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack that has affected millions of users across U.S. A group of hackers called Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility for this cyber attack.

The company however has posted on its blog that the network is all fine as the issue has been fixed. It has assured that no personal data has been compromised in this attack.

“Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic. Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed. We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused,” said the blog post from Sony.

DDOS attack is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. It generally consists of efforts to temporarily or indefinitely interrupt or suspend services of a host connected to the Internet.
