Varian's Treatment Planning System for Information Management
Palo Alto, CA: Varian Medical Systems, a provider of radiotherapy systems and software for the treatment of cancer, has been selected by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to deliver Eclipse treatment planning software for the proton center at the Manchester hospital. Varian is already supplying treatment equipment for the two UK national proton centers being constructed at The Christie and at University College Hospital in London.
Varian's Velocity system offers large-scale archival image storage and management, and serves as a centralized repository for all diagnostic, planning and delivery information. It is a suite of radiation oncology information system software solutions to help radiation therapy care teams efficiently manage sophisticated processes. “At Varian, we are incorporating imaging along the entire patient continuum from diagnosis to treatment to follow-up,” remarks Tim Fox, Associate Vice President-Imaging Informatics of Varian Medical Systems.
“Varian is proud to have been selected to provide advanced treatment planning software for this major new facility. This decision recognizes our long-term commitment to the proton therapy market and our ability to offer a level of compatibility and technical excellence that no other oncology software provider can match,” said Steve Laws, VP of software sales in EMEIA, Varian Medical Systems.
Varian’s Velocity software platform provides clinicians with a true longitudinal oncology patient record that unifies patient imaging and treatment information acquired from different systems to provide a comprehensive view of the patient’s clinical history. “Before Velocity, a true longitudinal oncology patient record of imaging and treatment could not be performed other than to scrutinize data from different systems side-by-side and perform educated guesses,” says Fox. Using Varian’s solution, cancer care teams create new knowledge to solve complex health problems for cancer patients, and they embed that knowledge for use by next generation clinical practice.
Varian Medical Systems focuses on innovation, supporting clinicians, and simplifying cancer-fighting solutions. “We have a vision of a world without fear of cancer,” says Fox.
