VMware's Updated Virtual SAN Solution Advances Hyper-Converged Infrastructure Stack and Operates SDDC at Scale

FREMONT, CA: VMware, the cloud and virtualization software and services provider, has announced that it is upgrading its enterprise-grade, hyper-converged software with the new release of Virtual SAN version 6.2, an innovative storage solution. The new improved software combines software defined compute, storage and networking capabilities with available hardware transforming x86 servers and direct-attached storage into simple and robust hyper-converged infrastructure systems that help organizations reduce IT costs and management complexity and achieve flexibility and breakthrough performance for the software defined data centers (SDDC).

VMware Virtual SAN 6.2 is a rich storage platform for hyper-converged infrastructure optimized for vSphere virtual machines. It is inclusive of all new data services and enhanced capabilities like deduplication, compression, performance metrics, Sparse swap files, in-memory caching and software checksum that can be applied individually to any applications and are provided through storage policy management framework. It also provides RAID-5/6 (Erasure Coding) capability that guarantees storage resource savings without compromising on data availability. The platform offers the operational efficiencies such as infrastructure agility, risk mitigation, and increased manageability..

The new VMware Virtual SAN 6.2 enables all-flash hyper-converged solutions for as low as a $1 per usable GB and increases the storage efficiency by up to 10 times. It introduces new advanced data efficiency capabilities for all-flash storage along with new Quality of Service and capacity monitoring capabilities.

VMware Virtual SAN is designed to be the optimal storage solution for VMware vSphere virtual machines. The software enables core storage services for virtualized production environments, with greater performance, scalability, flexibility, and lower latency and cost. Featuring storage policy-based management, VMware Virtual SAN shifts the management model for storage from the device to the application, enabling administrators to provision storage for applications in minutes. In conjunction with the introduction of VMware Virtual SAN 6.2, VMware has unveiled extension of VMware Virtual SAN Ready Nodes, a pre-certified configurations of servers to enable customers avail trail run of VMware’s hyper-converged software. The updated Virtual SAN Ready Nodes features new licensing, pre-installed software and support options.
