Janice Wang, CEO
The founder of Alvanon, a garment manufacturing company, was among the handful of people who brought renaissance in the apparel industry. Having witnessed a downturn previously, he began to explore new ways to improve the standards of apparel manufacturing. Instead of manufacturing with least regard to the consumers’ comfort and fitting, Wang targeted on perfecting the apparel product sizing and spent sufficient time understanding the anatomy of different body shapes and sizes. The result: mannequins were built with a deep understanding of the body patterns of targeted audience. New York-based Alvanon addresses the sizing challenges and helps designers, brands, labels and retailers easily meet the expectations of their target markets.

Alvanon leverages the cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning in its solutions to study the body shapes of the population in a defined market and formulate the “idea to execution” strategies. The firm advises the global apparel brands to achieve their mission and vision. Alvanon’s Data Gathering and Analytics tool employs several body scanning methods to capture the right body size data. Among the tools used include laser, infrared, and millileter radio scanners that capture body specifications data precisely.

The sizing issues impact the entire supply chain of the apparel industry—from design to manufacturing to shop floor. To alleviate this challenge, Alvanon has crafted the state-of-the-art sizing and fit tool, “AlvaForm,” that aids clients in keeping the apparel product sizing consistent and accurate at execution. To further eliminate the friction from the supply chain and offer the certainty to stakeholders, Alvanon has created “Virtual AlvaForms” that brands can leverage at multiple levels such as design, prototyping, quality check, and production. Marrying physical AlvaForms with its virtual counterpart inspires confidence among designers and technology professionals to conceive new designs on multiple avatars that fit their brand’s set standards. The testimonials from global apparel brand executives reflect the improvements in apparel product sizing, optimized approval process and speed to market.
Complimentary to the solution, Alvanon also offers consulting as well as training services to its clients. The expert management consultants help retailers and designers to overhaul and improve the apparel product development process and lifecycle, so they achieve their goals of improved product quality, cost-efficiency and speed to market.

For example, the leading fitness brand, Reebok after its partnership with CrossFit—a sports brand—needed to know the average CrossFit body size, shape and range (as the average size differs from athlete to athlete.) As Reebok suffered from the lack of information about the CrossFit athlete body types, they collaborated with Alvanon to improve the sizing of Reebok- CrossFit line of apparel. In addition to leveraging the infrared body scan tool to scan the bodies of athletes, Alvanon also conducted a 3D body survey. Capturing the vertical and horizontal measurements, infrared body scan tool generated over 80 measures and created 3D avatar points from the same data. The result was a more functional apparel product, consumer satisfaction and speed to market.

Aspiring to be at the forefront of innovation in the highly competitive market, Alvanon regularly revamps its solutions to meet the apparel product fit requirements of brands, designers and retailers. Having nurtured a deep expertise in apparel product innovation, the firm has realized that many industries are struggling to fill the knowledge chasm, and thus introduce the apparel knowledge hub MOTIF was launched in October 2018, to bridge this gap and give access to training, professional development and mentorship from the industrys leading practitioners.
