In a race of countries trying to arm themselves with state-of-the-art technologies, aircraft, tankers, and other equipment, there has been a sporadic outburst of arms, ammunition, and formidable weaponry. The question remains, however, if adequate training, periodic servicing, maintenance, and a reliable supply chain of spares are available. Analytics is an equally important wing in defense that provides insights on equipment condition, and predicts anomalies, acting as a backbone to operations. A century of expertise that Boeing has had in commercial, defense, and aerospace manufacturing makes the company stand out of the crowd, making it a provider of competent services.

Founded in 1916 as the Pacific Aero Products Company, Boeing was the main supplier of seaplanes to the U.S. Navy during World War I. Boeing steadily emerged as a market leader with its best-in-class hardware and futuristic designs and monopolized the market, beating competitors by a huge margin. Today, it manufactures commercial and defense aircraft, and also serves as an important contributor to aerospace, in collaboration with NASA. Boeing’s services can be availed globally, as it functions from multiple fronts like China, Australia, India, Japan, and Latin American countries.

Having such a broad spectrum of merchandise and operating space, Boeing runs one of the world’s most extensive services section. To maintain a fully mission-capable defense and support system, Boeing provides total lifecycle support, which represents a full-on service period of commitment for an aircraft’s maintenance and modification throughout its service, till it is eventually given a rest. This capability enables access to a global supply chain of OEM and non-OEM parts with 24/7 distribution centers.

With its supply chain management, Boeing provides access to a massive inventory of aircraft components including spares, repairs, and asset management. It performs planning in demand and forecasting, warehousing and distributions, and outcome-based customer support. Through effective management of supplier chain and competitive procurement of parts and materials, Boeing helps in extending the lifecycle of navy and marine fleets at a comparatively low price. The company provides predictive analytics to anticipate and prevent upcoming anomalies and roadblocks by using aircraft data.

It also helps in improving the facility operation and infrastructure support system. The V-22 Readiness Operations Center enables readiness and reduces operating costs in navy and marine fleets.

Troubleshooting for mechanical issues, performing systems upgrade, and additive manufacturing ensures a cost reduction in parts or vehicular replacement. With airframe inspections, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications, and on-ground support, Boeing’s unparalleled capabilities enable the highest level of assistance and readiness. Through upgradation and performing retrofits to the existing aircraft, Boeing allows its clients to face the requirements of the modern world. The maintenance provided by Boeing extends the availability of the aircraft and restores its capability. It also offers training solutions through analysis, devices, and other centers. With adaptive learning, integrated live-virtual training, constructive training, computer-based and classroom training, and simulation training, customers can avail a high fidelity program to help in a seamless transition from the classroom to aircraft. The P-8A training system gives pilots and maintenance crew a surreal environment experience at a minimal cost comparing to the in-flight expenses. Boeing is comprehensive with its whole service package.

Currently, Boeing is focused on its $6.5 billion modification contract with the Pentagon in supplying Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) tail kits, spares, repairs and technical services to the U.S. Air Force (USAF). The company’s venture capitalist arm HorizonX Venture has invested in Robotic Skies, a startup that provides commercial services for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). It manages maintenance, inspection and alteration for global manufacturers and operators of commercial unmanned aircraft systems.
