Enabling AI-Driven Analytics at the Edge

Private and public organizations rely on video surveillance to ensure the safety and security of their people. However, manually monitoring surveillance footage is time-consuming and expensive. To overcome these challenges, many organizations are adopting AI-powered systems. These systems utilize advanced deep learning algorithms to quickly analyze video streams and detect potential threats, eliminating the need for human intervention or enhancing the capabilities of existing personnel by allowing a few security officers to concurrently monitor hundreds of cameras at hundreds of frames per second.

While cost and time savings can be significant, a common challenge is computing latency. This can cause delays in obtaining insights and hinder the ability to act promptly to prevent incidents, including loss of life.

Cachengo addresses this latency issue with its Edge AI System and with its partnership with Law Enforcement Network (https://www.lenllc.io) that was announced in February this year. The system revolutionizes the computing paradigm by distributing computing power to each drive instead of relying on data migration between disks, CPUs, and the cloud. By enabling data analytics at the edge, the Edge AI System eliminates the need to transfer data across the cloud in order to make a detection, resulting in faster insights and response times.

A leading provider of storage systems with AI and ML expertise, Cachengo has formed strategic partnerships with AI-based video surveillance solutions and weapon detection systems providers to improve the response time to potential threats.

“Our ability to process the data at the edge allows us to quickly detect, retrain, deploy, and improve new models, and to alert law enforcement, first responders, and security personnel about potential threats in real time,” says Ash Young, CEO, Cachengo.

AI-Powered Solution for Data Monitoring

Cachengo’s architecture is the optimal combination of management, networking, and hardware that enables analytics at the point of data origination. Its portfolio includes modular storage and compute clusters, Bento and Pizza, TelePath, and Knowhere, a cloud-based tool and marketplace that oversees the server nodes with easy point and click management.

“Sending 4k high-definition videos from 200 cameras 24/7 over the internet to a centralized cloud to process for a weapon is often not feasible. We have customers who would require uploading more than a petabyte per day.

Processing data at the Edge and then transferring smaller amounts of relevant data to the cloud using Cachengo’s systems allows clients to reduce the costs of unnecessary backhaul," says Young.

Besides cost benefits, clients can eliminate the risk of sensitive data leaks. Keeping it on-premise reduces the possibility of data misuse by preventing it from falling into the hands of third parties or bad actors on the internet.

The Edge AI System can be deployed in schools, theaters, airports, moving vehicles, and other public facilities to enable faster response to potential threats, potentially revolutionizing the way lives are saved today.

Easy Integration for Improving Overall Operational Efficiency

Cachengo’s products are highly extensible and can augment existing systems in just a few minutes. For instance, in 2021, NJ Transit needed an expansion storage solution for their onboard digital video recorders (DVRs), but did not desire equipment replacement on their trains and buses. By delivering its storage products, Bento and Pizza, Cachengo resolved this issue efficiently.

Our ability to process the data at the edge allows us to quickly train, retrain, deploy, and redeploy new models at the edge and alert law enforcement, first responders, and security personnel about potential threats in real-time

Cachengo also built a solution to enable data transfer from vehicles to the corporate network whenever those vehicles were in Wi-Fi range. Apart from the cameras, the client deployed various sensors for counting passengers in order to create a three-dimensional map of their movements within the vehicle. The telematic vehicle information, once fed into the Cachengo product, would also enable the client to identify unusual human activity or even system faults within the bus or train. This technology was a major component in IDC’s (International Data Corporation) 2022 Best in Future of Digital Innovation Awards.

Cachengo also helps clients optimize their daily operations. Its system monitors, gathers, and runs statistical analysis on all daily operations data. This includes information about vehicle arrival and departure times and passenger count at each station. All this analysis is done locally on a bento inside the vehicle and can be easily accessed by clients in real time through a cellular connection.

This processed information also synchronizes with a client’s backend system each time the vehicle pulls into the station.

Edge AI System’s ability to easily integrate with different systems, like ticketing, helps extract meaningful insights to deal with unexpected situations. It correlates each ticketed passenger’s image within the vehicle through an electromagnetic signature that originates from their mobile device. The data aids in locating a passenger when cameras fail to capture a picture good enough for facial recognition. This allows them to easily contact the passenger to inform them of a personal emergency, even when their phone is unreachable. Apart from enhancing operational efficiency, clients can use the data to improve customer satisfaction and efficiently manage their staff and expenditures.

Cachengo’s Edge AI System is easy to deploy. Clients can unbox the product, plug it in, switch it on, and start working.

Dedicated to Success and Safety

Propelling ahead of the trend of turning chips into identity data centers, Cachengo has achieved unrivaled storage and computing density in the marketplace. The explosion of data center technology and products demands that companies shrink the chip size and power profile. However, creating a device is not enough; effectively deploying and managing it is a crucial piece of the puzzle, and Cachengo is solving it with Cachengo TelePath.

”Processing data at the edge and transferring only small packets of relevant data to the cloud using Cachengo’s systems allows clients to save significant costs while transmitting data”

It is a software-defined WAN architecture over Ethernet which connects the Cachengo nodes without publishing addresses in a directory, creating a secure, peer-to-peer network at a reasonable cost. The software can easily detect and prevent authorized people from engaging in unauthorized or criminal actions.

The backbone of Cachengo’s innovative solutions portfolio is its team with diverse backgrounds in machine learning and other technologies. Members continually upgrade their skill sets to bring innovative solutions to the market. Going forward, the team plans to bring in new products, including software and hardware, and solutions with far-reaching benefits for all industries. Customer feedback is taken into consideration during the improvement and expansion of its products and services to build solutions around client needs.

Cachengo is also exploring potential merger and acquisition partnerships to take its vision forward. It continues to work toward its mission of saving lives by providing the best-performing and easiest-todeploy storage systems in order to perform localized computing where the data sits. Fostering Analytical Edge architecture through the right combination of security, scale, economics, and performance, Cachengo is set to make a significant mark in AI-powered weapon detection systems, and to make the world a safer place in doing so.
