A New-Age Legal Practice Management Solution

Back in 2007, when the cloud was beginning to emerge as a computing platform and had started transforming many industries, the legal industry remained untouched. This was when Jack Newton and Rian Gauvreau decided to bring the practice of law into the cloud and fundamentally improve lawyer-lawyer and lawyer-client collaboration using cloud-based technologies.

Having met some of the Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC) professionals, the two friends learned about the LSBC’s small firm lawyers witnessing higher malpractice and ethics violation rates. They discovered that such lawyers did not have adequate support staff to handle clients or meet important deadlines. The obvious solution to this problem was to use technology solutions such as a practice management system that the duo decided to develop to help small firm lawyers manage their practices efficiently. Consequently, in 2008, they developed Clio—a cloud-based legal practice management software platform—for law firms around the globe.

Clio is a mobile-friendly solution crafted with the assistance and advice from bar associations and law societies worldwide. It offers all the features and integrations that legal professionals require to run a successful practice and comes with more than 90 app integrations with applications such as Microsoft Office 365 and QuickBooks. Clio provides an open application programming interface (API) that allows customers to develop customized extensions to the legal practice management platform for their various needs.

From solo lawyers to firms employing over 100 employees, law firms of all sizes employ Clio. The solution empowers legal professionals to manage their clients, cases, documents, bills, reporting, and accounting effectively.

With offerings such as client portal, law firm KPI dashboards, and campaign tracker in its portfolio, Clio is the first-to-market solution coupled with features that help transform law practices.

Clio is more than just a software; it’s a platform for data-driven lawyers on forage to meet their clients’ needs and undertake well-organized and profitable practices. It focuses on different law practice areas such as administrative, bankruptcy, criminal, government, and real estate among others. With a mission to “transform the practice of law, for good,” Clio empowers legal professionals to be client-centric through a suite of cloud solutions that includes practice management, customer relationship management (CRM), and client intake software.

“Our vision to continuously transform the legal industry is what drives the work we do at Clio, and we still have so much more to do,” says Jack Newton, co-founder and CEO, Clio. Over the past decade, Clio’s goal has diversified from providing affordable technology solutions to lawyers to influencing the legal industry. With over 150,000 customers across 90 countries, Clio continues to lead the legal industry with initiatives such as the Legal Trends Report, the Clio Cloud Conference, and the Clio Academic Access Program with the approval of over 65 bar associations and law societies globally.
