This system, which Shashkin describes as an "Uber-like model for snow removal," enabled citizens to simply attach a snowplow to their car and then download a mobile app to become a part of the government fleet to clean snow on the streets. It eliminated the need for extra workforce, reduced idle time significantly and saved local government from expensive contracts while equipping citizens to partake in the snow-removal endeavor. “Montgomery County government was able to take advantage of new advancements in technology, such as cloud and mobile devices, for an efficient clean-up after the storm,” Shashkin notes.
