Fiber Mountain takes complex layers of switching out of a datacenter and still provides end-to-end connectivity. The company delivers an elastic infrastructure that provides freedom from rigid architectures, redundant protocols and unwanted vendor lock-in and subsequently streamlines packet-forwarding decisions using a centralized control plane. Fiber Mountain has a Glass Core™, which is based on software controlled fiber optic cables and the Optical Path Exchange (OPX), and is controlled by the centralized Alpine Orchestration System (AOS). AOS creates software defined connections from any port to any other port across the Glass Core, called Programmable Light Paths (PLP). The Glass Core provides a simpler implementation and enables direct connectivity between any two ports, by passing what would have been performed by several switches in a legacy network. This is like putting a black box around the 'plumbing' of the network, which we will define for this discussion as all the switches, routers, cables, storage –and use the centralized AOS application to control the black box. This allows network and data center operators to focus on servicing their core business and enjoy the simplicity that AOS offers by masking the complexities of the plumbing. Fiber Mountain’s switch and OPX products are equipped with 24-Fiber MPO connectors

If there is less hardware, the network will be simpler, with fewer challenges
Fiber Mountain’s technology is being deployed in large enterprise data centers in financial, media and cloud services markets. To provide a solution that encourages revenue growth and productivity, the firm assisted a cloud services customer having three data centers located in the U.S. The customer deployed Fiber Mountain’s AOS, switches and intelligent cables, to obtain real time visibility of their data center networks and the ability to manage the three sites from a single location. “Our unique technology allowed them to reconnect and reconfigure the fiber between servers and switches without any human hands and also control data flows across the network. With more server capacity within a smaller space, and remote management requiring less technical resources, Fiber Mountain has been an asset to increase profitability and productivity for this customer,” says Raza.
The company takes pride in its ability to render a simpler, flatter network, optimized for each data center via an advanced software orchestration system. The firm’s unique ability to manage packet processing as well as the physical layer of the network from the same management screen is one of the main factors that set Fiber Mountain ahead of other networking companies. The company will continue to enhance its disruptive technology that would simplify and optimize data center networking. “Our vision is to be a major player that defines how data center architectures should evolve,” Raza concludes.
