The seeds of foundation for HITS Scanning Solutions were laid in the early 90’s as a microfilm conversion business and in due course transitioned itself into a premier document scanning and conversion company as enterprises were alarmingly looking for ways to manage and secure their documents. Michael Steinmann, who started at HITS in 2001 as his first job fresh out of high school and became its Sr. VP, took the helm of the company in 2015 when he purchased it. Under his ownership, HITS moved into a 24,000 sq.ft. location, and Steinmann says, “It was all part of a multi-million dollar reinvestment into the company which I saw as the next chapter for HITS Scanning Solutions as a pioneer in helping businesses go paperless.”

HITS offers an array of conversion services which helps customers move towards a paperless office while also helping them to achieve their desired business outcomes. “Since we started converting documents over 20 years ago, we have had the pleasure of producing over one billion images,” says Steinmann. HITS specializes in services that include microfilm conversion, monitoring strip conversion, large format conversion, data migration, and secure document destruction. The MO based company’s home-grown production tracking system allows for accurate cataloging of all documents during the conversion process. “We offer the capability to see when, what, and how employees have ‘worked’ certain documents,” explains Steinmann. Also, the company offers safe and secure document storage and management for scanning and converting private documents, especially medical and health records.

As a unique value proposition, HITS has invested heavily in designing STR8VIEW—an innovative secure cloud-based document management system that enhances the way organizations view and retrieve their documents. This eliminates the hassle of going through multiple channels to retrieve documents which reduces time and cost associated with maintaining a paper office. “What makes STR8VIEW truly unique is its one-of-a-kind viewer designed for continuous viewing of fetal monitoring strips,” describes Steinmann.

HITS unique 8-step process includes: Check-In, Preparation, Scanning, Indexing, Quality Control, Multi-Format, Media Creation, and Secure Destruction. There are quality control check points in each step to ensure the highest level of quality. “From the initial contact to project completion, clients receive exceptional and consistent customer service,” extols Steinmann.

In an instance, HITS assisted BJC Healthcare, a centre that offers a unified, comprehensive approach to transplant patient care. With their continued growth in the horizon, BJC Healthcare faced issues with their relocating process as there was no space designated for paper records and wanted their documents to be converted over to electronic images. HITS helped them with their paperless initiative by digitizing millions of images and 30,000 rolls of microfilm. Currently HITS is in the process to help eliminate off-site storage costs. “We are in the process of removing over 10,000 boxes from their storage provider and will upload this critical information into the hospital’s document management system for easy retrieval,” explains Steinmann.

To further achieve new heights, the company embarked on determining the solutions that compliment its core service of document conversion; but ended up discovering ways to supply its customers with added services that compliment other business’ core service offerings. “This discovery led us to sign a partnership agreement with a software provider in Silicon Valley, and in the coming we will announce the arrangement to supply our scanning services to their customers nationwide,” concludes Steinmann.
