ImageMAKER Development: Delivering Robust and Scalable eDiscovery Processing Solution

Ken Davies, Managing Director
Today, enterprises are harnessing eDiscovery solutions to access, review, analyze, and produce information that is stored electronically including email, word files, and spreadsheet for civil legal actions and regulatory compliance. However, the continuous growth of electronically stored information, which is driving up the discovery costs, is compelling businesses to bring e-Discovery processing tasks in-house. CIOs are looking for cost-effective e-Discovery processing tool to reduce costs and provide a transparent and accurate process. “The benefits of processing documents in-house include quicker turn-around time, better control over quality and security issues, and reduced outsourcing costs,” reveals Ken Davies, Managing Director, ImageMAKER Development. Headquartered in New Westminster, Canada, ImageMAKER provides feature-rich, robust, and scalable e-discovery processing solution that helps organizations to search their electronic information at ease.

With an industry presence for more than a decade, the company focuses its development efforts on building high quality products, with a strong emphasis on service and support. “Our products include TIFF print drivers, document conversion tools, and the Discovery Assistant e-Discovery product,” states Davies.

The company’s flagship product, Discovery Assistant is used as an in-house e-Discovery processing tool and can process email and electronic documents to TIFF and PDF on a standard desktop computer. “Some e-Discovery collections exceed a million document records. In this case, large integrated processing applications processes large collections behind the scenes, automatically pushing through those documents that can’t be converted—resulting in 99 percent conversion rates,” asserts Davies. On the contrary, Discovery Assistant is designed to support conversions of 100 percent of the documents needed to be processed and identifies exceptions. Designed as a niche product, the Discovery Assistant functions as a small-scale e-Discovery tool that can be installed on a single desktop and requires only limited end-user training. The product scales to work across multiple desktops as volume increases, and is capable of scaling to handle terabytes of data, if required. It includes an integrated search tool, near duplicate identification tool, email threading tool, bates stamping, and review and redaction modules.

“Our telephone support and access to online meetings allow us to help customers convert every document and reduce the ‘miss-converted’ document volume to zero,” he adds.

“The simple and easy-to-use Discovery Assistant can be up and running on a standard office desktop within 30 minutes of in¬struction,” delineates Davies. The solution supports all the major review tool load file formats, including load files for Relativity, Concordance, Summation, Clearwell, and Ringtail.

ImageMAKER supports services like email and telephone support, as well as offers online interactive meetings through GoToMeeting software to help customers identify and resolve user issues. The company works with a number of large corporate and government clients and constantly enhances its product of¬ferings to stay current in a competitive market place. “At Image¬MAKER, we provide custom developed services to clients who wish customized features or need product modification to meet specific requirements,” says Davies.

The company has a large number of dedicated customers that continues to support its various products through support payments. “Marketing expenses are limited to web based inquiries, and we don’t have the huge over-head that traditional software development companies have. As a result, we can offer a full featured, robust, tested product, at a very competitive price point,” claims Davies.

Moving ahead, ImageMAKER is working to develop a web based review tool that can be sold as a companion product to complement the existing Discovery Assistant platform. “We also see interesting opportunities in the freedom of information market space,” concludes Davies.
