ExESS®—A Powerful EHS Compliance Manager

In the chemical industry, new technologies are adopted only if they are affordable, flexible, scalable, and offer rapid implementation to address critical needs. With the ever-changing regulations, only an accurate Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) management system can identify hazardous substances and communicate that information across the supply chain. Lisam’s ExESS software allows for real-time web services and API integration options with web applications, and batch integration with built-in integration tools. Built on flexible Microsoft .Net technology, ExESS is a flexible IT toolbox to support all aspects of chemicals management including hazard communication, environmental reporting, and inventory management. ExESS leverages fully integrated regulatory and transportation content libraries and can generate output in a number of languages. “ExESS functionality includes chemical and inventory management, global volume tracking and reporting, regulatory status assessment, workplace safety, and waste management,” affirms Nelson. It provides easy-to-use tools to access current substance classification lists and performs automated classification and transport calculations. Additionally, “Lisam offers a wide variety of cost-effective, integrated regulatory content options, such as Lisam OEL lists, EU GHS, and REACH libraries, and US Federal lists.”

ExESS exchanges EHS data from MS Excel, Access or other software with one centralized IT solution and provides a flexible database for any quality, safety or environmental management system. Lisam’s customers evidence the successful integration of ExESS with many different ERP systems including SAP, JD Edwards, Microsoft (Dynamics, Navision), ProcessPro, Oracle/PeopleSoft, and others, as well as in-house ERP systems. “Lisam offers clients the choice of fully integrated third party regional libraries,” states Nelson.

Praxair, the largest industrial gases company in North and South America, has a long time working relationship with Lisam. Lisam has recently helped Praxair to meet the specific SDS needs through data sharing as well as a template and module development program. Using ExESS, Praxair was able to efficiently convert its old line of products to a wide variety of industry compliant solutions. “As follow-on to the successful GHS conversion in the United States, Praxair is starting to roll out ExESS worldwide as a global authoring platform,” points out Nelson.

Lisam is continuing integrate regulations to the software in more languages and for more industries, with greater depth. “We have launched a GHS Gas Classification Module in North America with the Compressed Gas Association and EIGA in Europe, which has been very well received,” states Nelson. Over the past five years, Lisam has expanded geographically in six locations worldwide.
