Organizations can also use Matterport’s Capture Services, which provide trained technicians to handle the process on their behalf. Its app guides users through each stage of the scanning process. A user opens a job, records scan positions in sequence, and checks the preview while walking the property.

Each capture brings spatial and visual details into the app before the completed job is uploaded for processing. The information collected on-site becomes part of the same model that teams can later review, annotate, measure and share.

By combining separate scans into one navigable twin, Matterport’s Merge capability supports multi-floor, multi-building, indoor and outdoor projects. Multiple users can capture different sections simultaneously, reducing collection time while building a unified model with up to 2,000 scan points.

Once a twin is online, teams can revisit the space without arranging another trip. They can move to a specific room, take measurements and attach information to the exact location of their concern. Annotations can identify equipment, record observations or mark work requiring attention. The model becomes a shared visual index, keeping discussion tied to the wall, asset, room or construction detail.

Matterport has also built out its documentation tools for longer projects and repeat scans. Users can add field tags during scanning, copy tags between digital twins and move tag data in or out through CSV files. Property Intelligence adds automation to the captured model. In property marketing, Matterport Marketing Cloud can turn one digital twin into a 3D tour, listing photos, floor plans with room measurements and an AI-generated property description. The platform brings creation, editing, distribution and analytics into one environment, allowing the original capture to produce several market-ready assets without separate media workflows.

The value of this record extends beyond Matterport’s native environment. Its software development kit and application programming interfaces allow partners to place digital twins inside broader applications. For instance, e-Making, an engineering firm, built its e-Building project management environment around Matterport models to organize spatial data and building documentation.

One Model across the Building Life Cycle

Design and construction teams can integrate Matterport data directly into established technical workflows. Its MatterPak bundles provide point clouds and other files, while Matterport BIM Files convert captured conditions into Autodesk Revit files at Level of Development 200. Optional mechanical, electrical, plumbing and furniture elements can also be included. This service gives modelers a starting point based on the site rather than a blank digital environment.
Progress scans preserve what existed at specific project stages. For instance, architecture and design firm Corgan used Matterport twins to compare captured site conditions with Autodesk Revit and Navisworks models, annotate punch-list items and share visual records with project owners.

Using its digital twins, the company reported producing documentation twice as fast and reducing costly site visits by 75 percent. A task that once drew an estimator, preconstruction manager, project manager and virtual design and construction manager was handled by one person, while the shared model gave the wider team access to the captured site.

Gilbane used Matterport’s platform across distributed design-build work. In one virtual session, its team moved through 21 project sites in four hours and saved 168 working hours. Across 300 sites, fewer trips and site visits added up to more than 1,000 hours in cumulative time savings. The client also reported 25 to 30 percent in overall time and cost savings by speeding up design and construction phases.
