Connected Care - Healthcare without Boundaries

When Benjamin Franklin said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, he may not have said so in the context of healthcare costs, yet those words ring true as we witness unprecedented increases in healthcare and hospitalization costs across the globe. Unsurprisingly, individuals and physicians are becoming deeply invested in proactively managing their health. There is a notable shift in attitudes toward preventive wellness as patients seek more real-time information on their health. As digitalization and consumerism make their way into everyday healthcare, patients want to access personalized care in the convenience of their homes without having to visit healthcare facilities. That shift became particularly pronounced as the world navigated the COVID pandemic.

MedSys Health is accelerating that shift by transforming the care relationship between individuals and their care teams. MedSys’ vision is to be the ‘Digital Circle of Care’ for every individual allowing them to manage their health in a way that works best for them. MedSys’ connected care platform comes with Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM), Telemedicine, and Patient Engagement solutions. “Our platform is for anyone who needs a physician consult, wants to manage their chronic condition in between physician visits, or for those who want to proactively manage their health. Our platform is designed for use by anyone, helping reduce health disparities within the population,” says Shaema Talib, Vice President, Product Management at MedSys Health.

Simultaneously, MedSys is adding smartphones powered by FirstNet, built by AT&T, to its ‘RPM kits’. Along with the smartphone, the kits contain one or more monitoring devices, such as pulse oximeters, glucometers, blood pressure monitors, respiratory monitors, weight scales, and more. The smartphones are preloaded with the MedSys Health app and paired with the monitoring device(s) creating an easy to use, out-of-the-box solution for patients. MedSys’ RPM solution allows healthcare providers to monitor over 80 percent of chronic conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease, COPD, diabetes, heart failure, obesity, and respiratory health. Our apps provide patients and caregivers with updated alerts on the patients’ health thereby improving patient engagement and caremanagement to better health outcomes.

Care teams are also kept informed of any abnormalities in their patients’ vitals through alerts. Once an alert is received, a care-team member reviews the data and reaches out to the patient to determine the cause of the abnormal readings. Thereafter, the patient is put on a corrective course to improve their health, thereby preventing the occurrence of medical adversities.

“The capability to virtually monitor my patients with chronic conditions is extremely important to me. As of now, we have deployed the Glucometer and the Blood Pressure monitors for our patients. The MedSys RPM kits allow us to include even those patients who don’t own a phone with a data plan. The feedback from the patients involved in the RPM program has been great so far”, states Dr. Cristian Breton of Primary Care & Diabetes Group of Kendall at Miami, FL.

Based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, MedSys Health is gradually looking to increase its footprint across the country. According to Shaema, a host of other functionalities are also underway to make the platform more engaging for patients and their care teams. MedSys is committed to its mission of serving the healthcare community comprising of primary and specialty clinics, independent and group medical practices, ACOs, acute care facilities, and health systems to help improve individual health and patient outcomes. MedSys is also working with local outreach programs to provide connected care to the underserved communities of South Florida.

MedSys Health’s integrated virtual care platform is designed for use by anyone regardless of age, gender, location, and health status

“When you cannot physically be at the clinic, we want to fill in that gap, so your health is not compromised. Consider the MedSys Virtual Care Platform as an extension of your medical team,” Shaema concludes.
