Mimecast: Single Cloud Platform for Email and Information Management

Julian Martin, VP, Strategic Alliances
Enterprises today deploy Microsoft Exchange Server to manage their emails and integrate with on-premises third-party software that enables capabilities such as anti-virus/anti-spam, data-encryption, data leak prevention and data archiving. However, these third-party implementations turn out to be complex, requiring regular maintenance, compliance follow-up, updates, need for local hardware systems, and IT resources. Mimecast simplifies these challenges related to managing complex email systems by removing on-premises hardware with a single cloud-based solution. “By replacing on-premises investments with a single unified SaaS solution, efficiencies are gained and cost savings are immediate. However, more importantly, when considering Office 365, a blended-cloud approach with a secondary cloud service, like Mimecast, can work seamlessly to deliver business continuity, enhance security and help ensure archiving requirements are met,” says Julian Martin, VP of Strategic Alliances, Mimecast.

Mimecast designs products that complement and extend the core features of any installation of Microsoft Exchange—on-premises, hosted or Office 365.By ensuring availability of around the clock essential business services, security, archiving and policy enforcement, Mimecast helps the clients move the systems from on-premises to cloud.

We take the pain out of handling the organization’s most important data—the information that passes through the emails

One of the company’s many solutions for email management, Broad Spectrum Email Security for Office 365, is a multifaceted Secure Email Gateway that overlays Office 365 and Exchange Online Protection with a blended cloud security solution. This includes Mimecast’s anti-spear phishing Targeted Threat Protection, and protection from other emerging security threats. In addition, there is High Availability Email Gateway for Office 365, a complete continuity platform for Office 365, delivered from the Mimecast Cloud. The service delivers email to end users during planned or unplanned outages of any part of the email infrastructure. “All our solutions are entirely cloud based with no on-premises equipments needed contrary to other ‘cloud’ vendors who run on-premises solutions in a hosted environment,” says Martin. “By combining the Mimecast with Microsoft clouds, enterprises can benefit from high availability, scalability and security,” he adds.

Going forward, the company will continue to develop and enhance its core features and services to improve the experience for their new and existing customers. Mimecast was developed for the cloud as a single unified service. The technology used to clean, secure, archive and retrieve corporate data is the company’s own IP, designed for end-user management. Mimecast also makes it fast and easy for IT administrators to manage email services. Unlike many ‘cloud’ vendors, Mimecast is a 100 percent cloud-based service with no on-premises equipment needed. This proves that not all clouds are equal.

“As an independent email management service, our key capabilities, such as high availability, security and archiving, offer a blended, future-proof choice for our customers, no matter what platform they choose today and in the future,” says Martin.

The cloud is the future direction for a number of enterprise business processes. By removing barriers to adoption of Microsoft technologies, such as Office 365 and Azure, the partnership between Mimecast and Microsoft is evolving, as is our relevance to the Microsoft Partner ecosystem.
