Streamlining Cloud-Native Infrastructure Management with KAOPS

Enterprise digital transformation remains crucial to business success. This entails the rapid development of modern applications to integrate technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), which increasingly rely on Kubernetes and the cloud-native open-source ecosystem.

Organizations have dedicated time and resources to implementing DevOps, but challenges like technical intricacies and a lack of consistency of tools persist within Kubernetes. In response to these challenges, enterprises are investing in platform engineering to build internal developer platforms (IDPs).

Amidst the ready-to-use solutions is Nethopper’s Kubernetes Application Operations (KAOPS). Enterprises use this GitOps-based, cloud-native platform engineering framework— delivered as SaaS—to create their IDPs.

“We focus on streamlining Kubernetes by integrating all the necessary open-source tools and handles their intricate technicalities, so that users can build their platforms and deploy their applications quickly and securely,” says Chris Munford, founder and CEO of Nethopper.

Kubernetes initially garnered attention from tech innovators a decade ago. However, in recent years, it has shifted to mainstream adoption. Over the past three years, specific practices like GitOps for effectively using Kubernetes have emerged. GitOps replaces the direct use of Kubernetes command line input (CLI) with a more repeatable and auditable approach to deploying applications.

GitOps is just one facet of Nethopper’s comprehensive suite of tools. The firm also provides observability tools. Since Kubernetes tends to be highly reactive, DevOps team has to actively check its environment to identify issues. With effective observability processes Kubernetes can alert them whenever a problem arises. By using AI, particularly generative AI like GPT-3.5, Nethopper actively monitors configuration errors and events to enhance Kubernetes management.

When migrating from VMware or private enterprise setups, many enterprises initially anticipate transitioning to a single Kubernetes cluster, only to realize the necessity for multiple clusters. With KAOPS they can efficiently manage this multi-cluster environment by enabling operators to execute tasks once, which propagates changes seamlessly across multiple clusters, streamlines operations, and reduces the risk of errors.

In addition, Nethopper recognizes that flexibility is required to meet the diverse needs of enterprises. KAOPS compiles all the necessary tools and Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) open-source components to deliver an SDK-like framework that helps build a custom IDP. It has a golden path and can incorporate extensions like CNCF tools that might not be included at the outset. KAOPS also seamlessly integrates clients' current tools, cloud services, and Kubernetes distributions, allowing them to streamline the project’s execution.

KAOPS'unique capability is further showcased in the successful partnership between Nethopper and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). A prominent server and storage solutions provider, HPE aids many customers who rely on their infrastructure, including Kubernetes. HPE offers Hybrid Cloud Management services to manage Kubernetes both on premises (e.g. on HPE hardware) and in the cloud provider of the customer’s choice. To support this, HPE has to establish process to handle multiple cloud providers environments, which can be challenging.

We focus on streamlining Kubernetes by integrating all the necessary open-source tools and handles their intricate technicalities, so that users can build their platforms and deploy their applications quickly and securely

Due to KAOPS’ multi-cloud capability and cloud-agnostic nature, HPE efficiently manages Kubernetes across various environments, including AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. KAOPS simplifies operations significantly, which aligns with Nethopper's mission of removing Kubernetes management complexity. This collaboration expands HPE's market reach, allowing them to cater to customers using Kubernetes in diverse environments, on-premises and in the cloud.

As businesses transition from the product launch phase to the critical Day 2 operations, the need for robust, future-proof platforms like KAOPS cannot be overstated. With the evolution of Kubernetes versions and the complexities of microservices-based applications, enterprises face multiple Day 2 challenges that range from seamless upgrades to comprehensive monitoring. These operations are increasingly scrutinized through ROI analysis, emphasizing the importance of frameworks like KAOPS that effectively address ongoing operational needs.

By offering KAOPS, the firm shines in this field, helping enterprises navigate the complexities of modern application management. In the relentless pursuit of digital transformation, enterprises demand more than just a platform—they seek a strategic partner like Nethopper, capable of guiding them through every stage of the journey.
