Today, the utility industry is radically transforming to lower IT costs, increase productivity, and deliver improved services through user and customer centered design and technology. With the growth of renewables, storage technologies, and mircrogrid, utilities are deploying Internet of Things (IoT) while continuing to face pressures to do “more with less”.

“As a part of the competitive advantage, open source technology is widely accepted in many parts of the world, but U.S. utilities are far behind. In the U.S., our challenge is to change the status quo and convince the CIOs in taking a calculated risk with open source technologies,” highlights John Chowdhury, Managing Director, NKSoft. Having the ability to understand all the aspects of the utility industry—from generation to customer engagement models—NKSoft delivers dynamic and innovative solutions for the utility market. “We understand the complete utility business model, and offer business innovation consulting services with a highly adaptable open source solution stack to make an immediate positive impact to the business with greatest ROI.”

The Dallas, TX based firm, NKSoft allows utility companies to easily embrace IoT, pre-paid metering, comply with NERC/CIP cyber security requirements and adopt Open Source technologies to achieve improved business results. NKSoft open source solution stack built with modular components that provide an integrated 360 degree visibility to the stakeholders. The stack includes services like enterprise social networking, integrated customer surveys, knowledge management, CRM, billing and collection management, NERC CIP Security compliance management, inventory management and IoT enabled service management.

NKSoft has helped cities, municipalities and communities to develop Fiber to the Home (FTTx) strategy, business case, solution design, deployment and on-going operations. NKSoftopen source solution stack provides functionalities to organize community surveys for FTTx, prioritize requirements, organize communications while provide an integrated 360 degree FTTx project visibility to the stakeholders. The stack used to develop community FTTx social networks, project management of FTTx deployment, accounting, design and deployment knowledge management, CRM, sales, billing and collection management, FTTx inventory management and IoT enabled service management.

We understand the complete utility business model, and offer business innovation consulting services with a highly adaptable open source solution stack to make an immediate positive impact to the business with greatest ROI

“Our nSocial tool provides organizations with the capability to build enterprise social networking to organize their communication, collaboration, and knowledge, in order to improve customer and employee satisfaction,” says Chowdhury.

“Our Open Source Solution stack is offered as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and hosted on highly secured and redundant HW platforms with 24×7 end user support, which means our customer can focus on what they do best,” says Chowdhury.

“We believe, we have a solid business strategy, but the challenge is to break the status quo,” says Chowdhury. Last year, NKSoft worked with a utility company who needed complete business solution for a new subsidiary, from Sales Management, Accounting to HRM. Working with NKSoft, the client was able to deploy the new integrated system within 30 days and gain a complete accountability of the subsidiary.

NKSoft is now working with one of the largest utilities in Asia to start an ‘innovation project’ to fundamentally shape the utility industry for the next century. “We are working as innovation consultants utilizing our technology stack and helping our customers to spur innovation to develop their roadmap,” delineates Chowdhury.

NKSoft is currently engaged in providing eight million prepaid meters with the help of their open source stack. “Our partners provide the meters, but with our technology, we are able to offer meter deployment project management, mobile payment to ongoing operational systems at 75 percent less cost then what is charged by other major meter vendors,” concludes Chowdhury.
