The other algorithm developed by NoHarm uses natural language processing (NLP) to extract unstructured patient information from clinical notes and eliminate the tedious process of structuring it.

The company provides courses for healthcare professionals to ensure they use the clinical information to make betterinformed decisions and utilize NoHarm’s system to its full potential. Apart from NLP, NoHarm uses AI features like outlier detection and neural networks to find suspicious information in medical prescriptions and obtains information related to patient risk. It also uses rule-based datasets to effectively store and manipulate information about drug-to-drug interactions and laboratory exams alerts.

The system was first implemented in the Santa Casa Hospital in Porto Alegre, with nine hospital complexes and 1200 beds. In the first year of its implementation, NoHarm’s system helped save 2 million Brazilian Reais by increasing the efficiency of the hospital’s clinical pharmacy and promoting better medication use.

NoHarm’s team collaborated with several clinical pharmacists and numerous experts to continually improve the hospital’s existing system. The organization also maintains close-knit relationships with clinical pharmacists from Portugal and Australia to understand the trends and approaches in the international market.
