For nearly a decade, there has been a significant dearth of skilled labor in the construction industry. In Canada, for example, the nation has enjoyed near-record employment levels but the strong economy hasn’t mitigated the challenges faced by contractors. A recent study revealed that while younger generations are turning down construction jobs in favor of technology-driven industries, a whopping 58 percent of large Canadian construction companies have experienced talent shortages this year. Canada’s construction landscape isn’t isolated in facing a skilled labor shortage. In what’s a global trend, the construction industry’s tepidness to adopt technologies has led to a majority of the younger generation turning elsewhere. However, to borrow an ancient Chinese proverb, “crisis brings opportunity and change.”

The construction industry is on the precipice of digital transformation, and early adopters of cognitive technologies are witnessing considerable improvement in efficiencies and processes. A flagbearer in driving this transformation, Procure is the undisputed market leader in providing cloud-based software for the construction industry. Through a unified platform, Procure connects people, applications, and devices, to aid construction professionals to manage risk and build quality projects, safely, on time, and within an economical budget. Procore’s open source platform has the capability to connect and integrate with various technologies, allowing its clients the option of streamlining their existing technologies and processes. By connecting critical business applications and information in one place, Procure enables construction professionals to view important data and standardize operations from anywhere they desire.

The Procore platform offers customized solutions for subcontractors, owners, and real estate developers. Subcontractors can seamlessly connect the entire business process—from bidding stages to closeout—with every member of their team while working on the same system. Besides improving processes that comply with safety regulations and quality specifications, subcontractors can gain real-time visibility into performance insights. During live projects, they can perform labor tracking and field financials to minimize risk, maximize profit, and manage change in real time.

Another critical component of the Procore platform is the Project Management feature which allows subcontractors to communicate in real time across project teams and gain access to the updated/latest information.

We are always focused on making Procore better, faster, and more useful. My passion has always been in construction. I still value hard work and the rewards of building something from the ground up

The Procore platform also offers easy ERP integration—giving users the option of connecting to their back office’s trusted accounting system for real-time access to job costs and profitability reports.

Procure has established itself as the most used construction management software in the industry but the road to success hasn’t been devoid of hardships. As revealed by CEO Tooey Courtemanche, the company nearly shut shop before its eventual rise. “Procore didn’t take off right away. After a few years of building the company, I almost lost my shirt, my home, and just about everything else. Back in 2002, most people working in construction didn’t use email for work tasks. Smartphones and tablets were still years away—and widespread adoption of these devices by project teams was more than a decade in the future,” says Courtemanche.

Hoping to capitalize on the opportunity to digitalize the construction industry, Courtemanche showed early customers the benefits of managing construction projects digitally, and the rest is history. In the years since Procore has dominated its peers but Courtemanche hasn’t taken his foot off the gas pedal. “We are always focused on making Procore better, faster, and more useful. My passion has always been in construction. I still value hard work and the rewards of building something from the ground up.”

Headquartered in Carpinteria, California, with offices spread across the globe, Procore will continue to efficiently manage billions of dollars in annual construction volume. Over the past 12 months, Procore has entered newer markets while continuing its growth in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
