Today, CIOs are one of the most important agents of digital transformation and value creation for companies, but they face a number of challenges in the process. Firstly, CIOs have to mitigate issues while leveraging new technologies, proposing improvements in process workflows to update legacy infrastructures, and creating value with new business models. In addition, they have to manage the scarcity of talented tech resources—who are hard to attract and retain—to join all winning projects, which makes the digital transformation process even more difficult. Enter Semantix. With a data-centric approach, the company serves its clients, including CIOs, as a one-stop-shop technology provider for big data, analytics, and AI.

Having an agnostic approach to technologies and vendors and a strong professional services team with over 300 members, Semantix is able to quickly offer proprietary and best-of-breed third-party solutions, including those for mission-critical operations, and/or deploy business performance solutions in strategic verticals. To cope with the lack of talent, Semantix offers its consulting and training capabilities for the creation of a center of excellence in data products, and AI. “As a data-driven technology provider of big data, analytics, and AI solutions, we are at the forefront of speeding digital transformation and boosting business performance in companies of all sizes in Latin America,” mentions Daniel Malandrin, the Managing Director, Head of Products, Corporate Development & New Ventures at Semantix.

Founded in 2010 in Brazil, Semantix offers data-centric solutions, including proprietary products, consulting, data engineering and data science services, 24x7 support for mission-critical operations, and certified training. The company also equips clients with unique products focused on business performance in specific verticals: financial services, retail, health, and industry 4.0, along with data solutions and algorithms based on open-source software. Semantix has over 60 technological alliances with technology companies to offer, in an integrated manner, the best package of solutions to customers. The company focuses on value generation, data management, and generation of insights for decision making, process optimization, and improvement of customer profitability. Semantix operates throughout Latin America and the U.S. via offices in São Paulo (headquarters), Miami, Mexico City, and Bogotá.

Semantix has developed OpenGalaxy, a data platform for big data analytics and AI designed for both multi-cloud and on-premise deployments. It is API-first with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) subscription models. Steering ahead of its application-centric peers, Semantix delivers best-of-breed technologies combined with its data platform to better suit clients’ needs, including connecting plugs for legacy systems, cloud or on-premises services, data flows with low latency (for instance, for global markets trading transactions) and a known product roadmap for the near future. In an instance, Semantix assisted Health Secretary of Government of the São Paulo State when they were asked to provide accurate data from different healthcare service providers in a data platform with visualization for immediate action and decision making during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Semantix’s data platform for health, along with professional services, data collection, and dashboards for visualization, was deployed in 48 hours which helped the Health Secretary of São Paulo State Government to capture data from different public health records and clinics. This helped them in consolidating data on a singular data platform and gaining the much needed visualization. Further, timeless deployment of the solution helped public officials to propose restrictions to improve social distancing. “We enabled the Health Secretary of Government of the São Paulo State to collect all the data insight in real-time and in a seamless manner such that they can decide the next course of action to ‘flatten the curve’ in the usage of public hospitals, and ultimately save lives in São Paulo State,” adds Malandrin.

We want to impact positively billions of people with data

Semantix also offers business performance solutions, which can be connected to its data platform and an expanding technology data/AI toolbox to cater to clients’ needs. This additional toolbox includes optimization/recommendation algorithms, cognitive/visual computing, NLP for consumer interaction, payment solutions, and quantum computing research related to finance cases added recently.

With the increasing efforts to speed up digital transformation, optimizing business performance has been at the core of Semantix’s strategy for at least five years. To this end, the company has been working with and developing new products and solutions for its enterprise and mid-sized clients to support them in achieving their corporate goals. “We want to impact positively billions of people with data,” says Malandrin. In 2020, Semantix expects this trend to continue even further, given all the challenges companies are facing to provide digital solutions for clients and employees in the new “work from home” scenario due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Semantix is participating in all phases of the transformation, from consulting to design, deployment/building to implementation, operations to sustainment, and training. The objective for Semantix is to become the technology provider of choice for clients in that journey, with its data platform products (such as OpenGalaxy Data Lake) and professional services and support.

Semantix has entered a new growth phase by boosting new product development, exploring merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, and expanding to one more country, allowing it to better serve its clients in Latin America and accelerate the execution of its business plan. In terms of new product development, Semantix entered four new segments in the last six months: cognitive computing, data shop for trading in global markets, payments processing, and quantum computing. Semantix envisions being a platform for trading and post trading transactions that leverages data from different sources by creating an ecosystem of data feeders that can aggregate data. Further, as part of M&A transactions, Semantix acquired and integrated two companies in 2020: FastOmni, a data-driven omnichannel retail solution for e-commerce (now called Smarter Sales) and Tradimus, a health-tech company serving with health service providers and health insurance and operators. Semantix has a strong ambition to secure its position as ‘the data platform of choice’ for Latin American companies and to attract opportunities in M&A to expand its offering related to business performance products. The company also announced the opening of a subsidiary in the U.S.

The opening of the American subsidiary is an important milestone for the company concerning two aspects: its proximity to customers in Latin America and for the time zone compatibility. Initially, this subsidiary in Miami will be focused on serving its partners and regional customers, such as Elastic, a provider of advanced technological search tools and Rappi, one of the largest delivery services in Latin America. Soon, Semantix will expand its scope to become a center for solutions co-innovation and new product development, in conjunction with innovation laboratories at universities and technological partners. “We are continuously putting efforts to expand our product offerings and service delivery in the big data analytics and AI sector. Recently, we have also added business performance applications which will integrate additional technology layers to gain data insights for retail, healthcare, and industry 4.0,” informs Malandrin.
