CIOREVIEW >> Internet Of Things >> Senzary

Senzary has been recognized by CIOReview Magazine as the recipient of “ Top 10 Internet Of Things Solutions Companies - 2023,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the CIOReview research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Eric Schummer, Founder and CEO.

Delivering Seamless IoT Transformations

Senzary

Eric Schummer, Founder and CEO
One of the most significant challenges in IoT implementation is ensuring the IoT assets can communicate costeffectively and securely with their internal and external environment. Senzary, a leading provider of commercial and industrial IoT infrastructure and solutions, addresses this challenge by leveraging the low-power wide area networking (LoRaWAN) wireless protocol and tried-and-true vertical applications from all over the world in its IoT implementation.

In addition to connecting to existing data sources, wireless LoRaWAN is a significant step from other wireless protocols like Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and cellular networks. It is ideal for IoT use cases where devices transmit small amounts of data over long distances. Built upon combining existing systems and adding LoRaWAN wireless capabilities, Senzary’s data mediation platform provides a resilient and secure IoT solution for a wide range of applications, including managing sensors, devices, registrations, troubleshooting, and bandwidth negotiations resulting in an enterprise-grade HUB for connecting the collected data to a wide range of applications, such as indoors or outdoors asset tracking, machine failure prevention, and enterprise systems like Azure, AWS, CMSS, MES, Snowflake, Google, Tableau, and others.

This successful addition of LoRaWAN is a direct result of Senzary’s goal to provide effective IoT solutions to customers who recognize IoT’s potential but lack the expertise to implement it and want to avoid the risk of failure for the lack of a methodology or the right toolset.

“We started the company with a clear goal in mind. Rather than evangelizing newer technologies, our focus is on providing the technology and expertise to deploy successful IoT solutions across multiple use cases,” says Eric Schummer, founder and CEO of Senzary.

Senzary has established a broad formal ecosystem of LoRaWAN sensors (+400) that showcase various use cases, including those in airports, logistics, smart cities, buildings, and enterprises.

The company has also developed some ready-to-use solutions. Among these are cold warehouse automated audits, machine failure prevention, or one of its promising solutions, Nanotrack, a service based on a LoRaWAN radio sticker, equipped with a built-in temperature sensor for measuring the temperature of perishable items during transit. The solution can determine where a temperature breach exists in a complex supply chain. Their partner Versalityx developed an application for Senzary that helps tell the story of a single bob across the supply chain but also to raise the needle in the haystack.

Its recent project in the Panama Canal is another testament to its ability to quickly and effectively implement LoRaWAN for a niche-oriented application. In just two weeks, it deployed LoRaWAN technology from the Atlantic to the Pacific to measure the sulfur content emitted from individual vessels crossing the canal. Within five weeks, Senzary developed a methodology and configured the necessary applications to assign sulfate measurements from individual vessels being processed in real time without installing any devices on the vessels. This resulted in over 1,000 vessels being measured in December alone, demonstrating the project’s success. This showcases the versatility of IoT and how it can be used in niche-oriented applications, not just in industry 4.0 enterprise solutions. The Panama Canal authority now has tools to enable its business model around emission controls.

Nothing is worse than spending time and money with a pilot that won’t scale.

Senzary can provide these successful outcomes because of four reasons.

1. Their ability to guide businesses through the IoT business case planning and implementation process and providing resources for long-term success. Its end-to-end services platform, IoTLogIQ— which can be installed on the cloud or on-premise—forms the key component of this approach as a key missing aspect usually is the necessary data mediation solution between the data sources and the required transformations to be useful to other applications.

2. Its vast ecosystem of commercial and industrial grade sensors (available upon request) from reputable and well-known manufacturers across the world made available from a SINGLE vendor, including support, troubleshooting, warranties, and development support.

3. An equally impressive array of applications for multiple use cases which can be provided to multiple stakeholders but stemming from a properly implemented core system. For example, the maintenance, safety, general operations, and others can perform asset tracking, predictive maintenance, or people flow analysis to determine space utilization leveraging specific applications in each case.

4. A global array of partners that provide footprint, solutions, and applications such as Versalityx, Advantech, Actility, Anixter, Synnex, IAC-Intl, and many others, each with tremendous expertise in all areas required to make IOT a success.

The IoTLogIQ platform allows businesses to create digital twins of physical assets, including IoT devices and edge devices acting as IoT controllers. These digital twins provide detailed information about an asset’s location, status, and performance metrics, allowing clients to monitor and manage them effectively. IoTLogIQ can also enrich, transform, and aggregate data from multiple sources, making it a powerful tool for managing IoT deployments. Besides, the platform is equipped to manage rules and processes and integrate with third-party applications via APIs or massive integrations such as Azure IoT Hub or SCADA.

Another area where Senzary’s IoT deployment strategies excel is bridging the gap between a client’s traditional infrastructure and new IoT technologies. Companies often have a mix of old and new technologies, including SCADA or MES applications. One of the biggest challenges is enabling communication and data sharing between these technologies. Senzary solves this problem by deploying a solution that can collect and capture data from both analog and digital sources, allowing companies to leverage their existing infrastructure while still benefiting from the insights provided by IoT solutions.

We started the company with a clear goal in mind. Rather than evangelizing newer technologies, our focus is on providing the technology and expertise to deploy successful IoT solutions

A powerful feature is an ability to create or update business or process rules for assets, data, and other aspects, which can be published to hundreds of edge devices simultaneously while keeping the mother ship updated, synchronized, and connected to the rest of the enterprise world, be it data lake, a ticket system, or someone’s cell phone upon a specific alert.

Schummer emphasizes the importance of Senzary’s partner ecosystem in ensuring these successes. Companies like Actility, Advantech, Watteco, Kerlink, Asystom, Vutility, Ellenex and multiple vendors across Europe and Asia work closely with Senzary to provide a large pool of knowledge, expertise and previously implemented solutions worldwide. Companies like IAC-International, Anixter, Cisco, Synnex, Netser group, and Advantech provide technology, solutions, and a global implementation footprint for Senzary’s solutions, and partners like Versalityx provide 360 vision analytics and story-telling with the data, helping shape the information for massive consumption and providing powerful insights from sensor data collected such as process analytics and all-inclusive dashboards.

Schummer has over 30 years of experience in global trade and industrial automation across multiple verticals, enabling Senzary to understand the business impact of technology and offer the right level of innovation. Driven by these competencies, Senzary’s brand is associated with many global companies that have successfully implemented numerous IoT solutions.

In summary, Senzary leads the way in providing industrial IoT solutions that revolutionize how businesses connect assets to their surroundings. Their end-to-end service platform, an expansive ecosystem of sensors, and guidance in navigating IoT implementation processes have established them as a reliable partner across multiple sectors. With multiple use cases and applications, Senzary's solutions empower businesses to outrun the competition and make well-informed decisions. In a nutshell, Senzary's vision is to enhance enterprises' connectivity and aid their decision-making efforts by delivering exceptional IoT solutions.
