Founded in 1986, Telular’s offerings are based on the company’s historical competence in collecting data and the ability to deliver that data as a service to customers who use it to make the big decisions that improve their business efficiencies.
Establishment of a Giant
Telular was established when it acquired the intellectual property rights to its cellular interface methodology for wirelessly communicating alarm signals for security systems, an early IoT application. Today, it creates operational, turn-key solutions, comprised of both hardware and software systems, to deliver current, historical, trending, and most importantly, actionable information, about a variety of assets for numerous vertical markets. Through many years of connecting disconnected products and gaining awareness and control from that connection, Telular understands the importance of the IoT.
According to Shawn Welsh, VP of Marketing and Business Development for Telular, “We need robust systems to analyze and distill down all of the data we are able to gather into actionable information, because simply having mountains of data isn’t that useful when you can’t actually condense it down to solving a specific problem. This is where Telular’s unique portfolio offers the solution for many industries.”
Currently, Telular has three major lines of business; Telguard products and services for the security industry, TankLink solutions for logistics management of bulk storage tanks, and SkyBitz, provider of remote asset tracking and information management services. The solutions offered by all of Telular’s businesses enhance the safety and security of people and assets, increaseefficiencies, improve distribution, and deliver a fast ROI.
As the Company has grown through acquisition, it has also strategically differentiated itself from the competition. First, because of its diverse technological know-how in numerous markets, Telular can collect data from a variety of devices. Often times it is data that was never accessible or too costly or time consuming to gather. Through the Company’s carrier relationships and engineering expertise, Telular’s solutions knock down barriers to business critical data and make it available 24/7 to everyone up and down the supply chain.

The second major differentiator, but just as important for Telular, is the ability to rapidly deploy products without capital expense. Telular is turning the data delivery system into a SaaS model, whereby a customer simply signs a monthly subscription and does not need to worry about paying for any hardware. This business innovation moves the IoT solutions off of the capital budget and into the operating budget.
Looking ahead, better standardization in the IoT space is something that Telular is looking forward to in the coming years. Telular believes that the ability to more easily integrate with other solutions that will readily accept the data they provide is the key to the success of the IoT.
