CIOREVIEW >> Artificial Intelligence >> XTM International

XTM International has been recognized by CIOReview Magazine as the recipient of “AI Localization Software,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the CIOReview research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Ian Evans, CEO.

XTM International
The Future of Seamless Multilingual Translation

XTM International

Ian Evans, CEO
XTM International’s advanced translation management system (TMS) overcomes the challenges associated with multilingual communication, facilitating global expansion for businesses.

Companies that operate in different regions often face challenges in accurately assessing the cost, quality and timelines of translation projects. Many rely on local providers or large agencies, which can lead to losing control over critical aspects of the process, such as budgeting, scheduling and access to specialized linguistic expertise.

By harnessing the power of cutting-edge linguistic technology, intelligent automation and AI, XTM liberates translation processes from manual and inefficient methods. It also helps organizations with mature translation processes that break free from traditional TMS limitations. Through its combined cutting-edge linguistic technology, AI, and intelligent automation, it addresses the complex demands of enterprise-scale localization such as high scalability, connectivity, and rigorous accuracy.

“The world of translation is a very human-centric business, and our goal is to guide clients toward future technologies without overwhelming them,” says Ian Evans, CEO.

Founded in 2000, XTM has grown from early translation memory systems into a leading provider of translation management solutions. Since the launch of XTM Cloud in 2010, the robust web-based solution has evolved to serve the needs of various enterprise customers, including language service providers and Fortune 500 companies. Its fully integrated translation platform automates the localization process, enabling businesses to deploy content in any language at any time with remarkable speed. It ensures complete visibility, accuracy and control over the translation workflow, allowing companies to manage their multilingual communications effectively.
XTM currently supports extensive multilingual capabilities, enabling clients to operate in around 170 languages, with plans to expand to 500 to accommodate diverse dialects and regional variations.

Expedited and Accurate Multilingual Translation

Unlike third-party-managed translations, XTM enables organizations to bring translation in-house. Users can easily upload materials from external agencies, legacy projects, or translation memory files in various formats into the TMS system.

XTM was among the first to implement an AI-powered translation memory aligner, using sophisticated algorithms to align and verify previously translated content across language pairs. The alignment process achieves over 70 percent accuracy, reducing the need for intensive manual review and ensuring high-quality consistency without retranslation costs.

Being agnostic of translation sources enables clients to explore a wide range of options beyond traditional human translation, allowing them to operate seamlessly across languages. Options include machine translation, neural machine translation, AI-driven translation and tools for quality estimation and audits.

Before starting a translation, the system assesses existing memory to identify gaps between the source and target files. An AI-powered estimator calculates the likelihood of achieving high-quality results across various third-party sources by sampling segments to verify translation accuracy, quality and time requirements.

Clients can set quality targets, such as 95 percent and receive cost and quality comparisons across sources. When accuracy thresholds are met, the system can automate translations, ensuring consistency, brand alignment, cost control and quick turnaround—all with minimal human intervention.

XTM is a reliable custodian of information for organizations requiring stringent data protection through its fully online translation management system. Unlike traditional methods that expose sensitive data, it keeps all projects secure within its platform.

The system facilitates secure collaboration, supports offline translations, and prevents data leakage by restricting access to authorized personnel, with all data stored in secure, sub-two data centers.

XTM streamlines new client onboarding by automating much of the translation memory (TM) setup process. A laborious process that previously required 50 to 100 hours can now be accomplished in a fraction of the time due to XTM’s powerful automation, allowing teams to concentrate on high-value tasks. For instance, projects initially estimated at 200 hours can see time reductions of 50 to 80 hours with XTM, resulting in a faster, more efficient workflow that enhances productivity and cost savings.

Solving Localization Challenges with Ease

At its core, XTM integrates advanced AI and machine learning with a deep understanding of client needs. A standout feature is an auto-inline element within its computer-aided translation (CAT) tool, which automatically translates inline tags, formatting codes, spacing and hyperlinks while parsing XML files. This user-friendly “what you see is what you get” mode enables users to focus solely on content, free from the distractions of formatting, ultimately enhancing both productivity and accuracy.

The world of translation is a very human-centric business, and our goal is to guide clients toward future technologies without overwhelming them

XTM’s terminology extraction tool is a notable innovation that benefits organizations with highly technical products, such as those in the automotive and airline industries. These organizations often maintain terminology glossaries, and XTM’s AI tool helps preserve this terminology during translation. Augmenting translation memory with approved terminology pairs reduces the need for QA checking, saving customers an average of 200 hours per month and ensuring consistency for critical elements like trademarks and brand-specific language.

XTM also offers language appropriateness-checking tools. The appropriateness of terms or phrases can vary significantly across languages and cultures, previously requiring human oversight. Its AI-driven appropriateness checker scans external sources to build a library that ensures culturally and contextually accurate translations.

A further breakthrough is XTM’s ability to identify non-translatable segments within documents. In traditional systems, non-translatable content, such as binary images or hyperlinks, would halt translation. XTM’s AI can now mark these segments and continue translating the document, improving workflow and reducing delays.

To improve translation accuracy even more, XTM employs its proprietary token-based Levenshtein algorithm. Unlike standard industry methodology, the algorithm retrieves more fuzzy matches by analyzing segment syntax. As a result, it maximizes translation memory usage, reducing not only translation costs downstream but also minimizing revisions as the reuse of approved translations ensures greater consistency to brand guidelines and terminology.

XTM’s innovative solutions have garnered acclaim across diverse industries. A prime example is a leading software company that has effectively automated the translation of its software assets into numerous languages. Achieving an impressive 98 percent automated translation rate without human involvement, this organization has maintained uninterrupted software development cycles while ensuring localization that meets global market demands.

Future-Proofing Business

Building on its culture of innovation, XTM is set to expand its connector ecosystem at unprecedented scale following the acquisition of Locale. Leveraging Locale’s proprietary technology that reduces connector development and system integration development time by up to 90 percent, XTM will offer greater coverage of unique, end-to-end automation needs. It is also introducing sophisticated post-edit quality scoring for both machine and human translations. The intelligent workflow routing that follows efficiently allocates resources to only translations that require editing based on established quality thresholds.

As businesses expand their global reach, XTM stands ready to provide the essential tools and support needed for success in the complex linguistic translation landscape.
