Vouched: Building Digital Trust for People and Their AI Agents
Peter Horadan, CEO
Online identity once involved a comparatively simple decision of determining whether the person attempting to open an account or access a service was genuine. AI agents introduce a second question. When software claims to represent that person, how can a business verify both the relationship and the authority delegated to it? For more than a decade, Vouched has helped businesses solve human identity verification through remote identity verification. Today, it is extending that experience to help organizations establish trust in AI agents acting on behalf of people. “We help detect identity theft and fraud in scenarios from banking to healthcare, ensuring secure access while keeping verification simple and compliant for legitimate users,” says Peter Horadan, CEO. Building One Platform for Every Trusted Identity Horadan sees digital identity evolving in three forms that include physical IDs, government-issued digital credentials and AI agents acting on behalf of users. Vouched is expanding its identity capabilities to support all three, enabling organizations to adopt new credential types and AI-enabled interactions without replacing existing verification processes or deploying separate trust systems. Government-issued digital driver's licenses are already gaining traction, with California issuing approximately two million credentials and New York about one million. Organizations can begin accepting these digital credentials without redesigning onboarding journeys, allowing them to prepare for broader adoption while maintaining familiar verification experiences. Vouched validates government-issued credentials, checks for document tampering and returns verified identity information that supports regulatory compliance across industries including financial services and healthcare. Organizations gain stronger fraud protection while preserving a verification experience that closely resembles presenting an ID during an in-person interaction. The company also simplifies deployment through integrations with many online banking platforms, telehealth systems and enterprise applications, allowing customers to strengthen identity verification without disrupting existing technology investments. Horadan expects digital credentials to eventually replace knowledge-based questions and texted verification codes in common identity processes such as password recovery. "Our goal is to make identifying someone online feel as natural as identifying them in person," says Horadan. "If you were checking into a hotel, no one would ask which address you lived at five years ago or text a six-digit code before handing you your room key. You would simply show your ID." Verifying People and the Software Acting for Them Verifying a person's identity is no longer the only trust decision organizations must make. As AI agents begin completing tasks on behalf of customers, businesses also need confidence that software is legitimate and authorized to act for the individual it represents. An airline, for example, may receive a ticket request from software claiming to represent a traveler. Before completing the transaction, it must determine who the traveler is, whether the agent is legitimate and whether the traveler has authorized that purchase on their behalf. To address this challenge, Vouched introduced Know Your Agent, a framework that verifies the person's identity, the AI agent interacting with the organization and the delegated authority allowing that agent to perform the requested action. Existing identity systems were designed primarily to determine whether a human was legitimate. Know Your Agent extends that trust decision by enabling businesses to distinguish trusted customer-authorized software from unauthorized automation and verify whether software has valid authorization to carry out a requested task. According to Horadan, Vouched was the first to introduce a framework dedicated to AI agent identity verification. He says Know Your Agent has received substantial adoption since its release and is approaching consideration as an industry standard, extending the company's broader identity capabilities rather than requiring a separate trust system. Delivering Secure Verification across Industries Organizations in banking, healthcare, insurance and other regulated sectors face the common challenge of reducing fraud while keeping identity verification simple for legitimate customers. They need reliable identity verification that supports compliance without adding unnecessary complexity or disrupting the customer experience. Vouched also helps defend against increasingly sophisticated impersonation attacks. Digital credentials supported by the platform rely on live biometric authentication using the credential holder's face or fingerprint before they can be presented. This provides stronger protection against deepfake-enabled impersonation than knowledge-based verification alone. Preparing for the Future of Digital Trust Digital identity is evolving as governments continue issuing digital credentials and organizations begin exploring AI-enabled customer interactions. Businesses increasingly need identity capabilities that can establish trust in both people and the software acting on their behalf while adapting to changing security and regulatory requirements. Vouched is extending identity verification from proving who a person is to proving which software may act for that person and within what limits. As digital credentials and AI agents become part of routine online activity, that connection between identity and delegated authority will increasingly determine which interactions businesses can trust.

Reimagining Identity Frameworks for Humans and AI Agents

The increasingly digital interactions in connected environments are challenging organizations to reimagine the way trust and verification are built between people and autonomous systems. Identity solutions for humans and AI agents are increasingly being built to enable secure access, continuous authentication, and controlled interaction on platforms where human users and machine-driven entities are working together. The change will help reduce uncertainty in digital exchanges and enable smoother coordination in workflows that rely on both automated decision-making and human oversight.

Deep Dive

Verifying Humans and the Agents Acting for Them

Identity checks are being pulled in two directions at once. Fraud teams need stronger proof as deepfakes and synthetic identities improve, while product teams cannot afford more abandoned applications or manual reviews. The buying problem is no longer limited to confirming that a person matches a government document. Digital credentials are entering more transactions, and software agents are beginning to act under a person’s authority. A platform chosen only for document capture may leave a company replacing its identity layer sooner than expected. Account recovery deserves equal scrutiny because a strong onboarding check can be undone by a weak password-reset process.
