In2Bank: When Storage Starts Understanding Information
Bruce Thompson, Founder and CEO
As much as 80 percent of stored unstructured data may be of little or no business value. The challenge is finding information that matters, keeping related records together and protecting them as business needs change. Bruce Thompson, Founder and CEO of In2Bank, set out to address that problem by changing how a storage system understands information. “What’s the most valuable component of any computer system? It’s the user’s information,” says Thompson. In2Bank’s Information Bank is built around the Information Asset, treating business information as more than an individual file. A contract, for instance, includes its metadata, emails, attachments, notes, approvals, reminders and process history, not just the signed document. Keeping these elements connected gives the system a fuller picture of the work the information supports. Each Information Asset has defined requirements that guide how its contents are handled, who can access them and how they are protected throughout its lifecycle. Functions often managed through separate products are brought together within the Information Bank. When a contract is created, the system assigns its template, metadata and serial number. Related spreadsheets, correspondence, signatures and notes stay linked to the contract as it moves through approval. As the expiration date approaches, a reminder prompts the organization to consider renewal. Protection Built Around the Information In2Bank’s approach changes access control. In a conventional file environment, permissions may be set once, even though the people who should see or edit a document change over time. In the Information Bank, access follows the asset’s lifecycle. An employee drafting a contract may be able to edit it, while a manager cannot see it yet. Once the employee submits it for approval, the system can grant the manager access and prevent the submitter from making further edits. The rules reflect the work underway. Recovery is another part of the architecture. The Information Bank is designed to restore protected information automatically when corruption occurs. Thompson also describes “shadow banks,” which maintain copies in isolated, protected, independently managed environments. If the primary store is compromised, those copies provide another recovery path. For CIOs and managed service providers, the operational consequences matter as much as the technical design. In2Bank brings management and protection functions into a single system, reducing routine storage administration. Information Banks have operated for two years without IT staff needing to touch them. A city government deployment illustrates the value at scale. The city clerk had 100,000 scanned documents and, after the Information Bank organized and protected them, could locate any document in less than three seconds, according to Thompson. Keeping Context for AI Preserving those relationships has another consequence as organizations bring AI into their workflows. A model can process the documents it receives, but it cannot reliably reconstruct approval histories or business relationships that were never retained. When that context disappears, the resulting answers and actions may be based on incomplete information. In2Bank captures an asset’s identity, relationships and history when information is created or imported, while those details are still known. The context remains associated with the asset. Thompson believes AI should be treated as another user of business information, subject to the same controls governing what people can access and do. In2Bank’s vision is for AI to initiate work that the Information Bank carries through established processes. A user could ask an AI system to prepare a contract. The system creates the record, populates its metadata, organizes the supporting information and begins the approval process. The idea behind In2Bank is that storage should do more than hold files. Once a system understands what its information represents and how it must be handled, it can take on responsibilities that otherwise fall to separate tools and human intervention. That combination of information management, integrated protection and lifecycle control underpins In2Bank’s recognition as CIOReview’s Top Information Asset Management System 2026.

Information Asset Management Systems: Strengthening Digital Business Foundations

Businesses are placing greater attention on how critical information is organized, accessed, retained and governed as digital operations generate growing volumes of business records. Information asset management systems help organizations bring greater structure to these assets, supporting clearer ownership, controlled access, efficient retrieval and more consistent information handling across departments.

When Files Become Managed Information Assets

Contracts, policies, design files and technical records rarely stay as single files for long. As work moves forward, they collect approvals, supporting documents, access restrictions and retention requirements. The challenge starts when a platform can store a file but cannot keep track of why it matters or what needs to happen next. For executives comparing information asset management systems, storage capacity and basic search are only part of the equation. What matters is whether the system keeps the business context attached to each asset without leaving teams to piece it together later.

Q1
What Do Top Information Asset Management Systems Help Organizations Accomplish?
Top Information Asset Management Systems help organizations manage business information throughout its lifecycle, from creation and classification to access, review, retention and recovery. These platforms organize documents, records, metadata and related materials so employees can find reliable information and understand its purpose. Unlike basic file storage, information asset management connects content with business processes, ownership requirements and access rules. This structure helps organizations maintain accurate records, reduce manual administration and preserve the context needed for informed decisions. It also supports accountability by making information easier to track as it moves between teams and workflows.
Q2
Which Organization Received CIOReview’s Information Asset Management Recognition in 2026?
CIOReview recognized In2Bank as its Top Information Asset Management System 2026. The recognition highlights the role of information asset management in helping organizations move beyond storing files toward managing the meaning, relationships and lifecycle of business information. As organizations handle growing collections of contracts, correspondence, approvals and operational records, structured information management becomes increasingly important. Systems in this category help preserve the connections between documents and the processes they support, giving technology leaders a more consistent foundation for information governance, security and business continuity.
Q3
Why Is Demand for Information Asset Management Software Growing?
Demand for information asset management software reflects the difficulty of controlling expanding volumes of digital records across departments, applications and business processes. Disconnected repositories can make it harder to identify authoritative documents, enforce retention requirements and establish who accessed or changed information. Organizations also face pressure to improve audit readiness, protect sensitive records and prepare information for AI-assisted workflows. Top Information Asset Management Systems address these needs by connecting records with metadata, permissions and process history. Their value lies in making existing information more usable and trustworthy rather than simply increasing storage capacity.
Q4
What Should Organizations Evaluate When Selecting an Information Asset Management Platform?
Organizations evaluating Top Information Asset Management Systems should assess classification, search, access controls, retention and recovery features. Metadata and audit trails support efficient retrieval and compliance, while flexible permissions help manage access. Integration, scalability, implementation effort and maintenance costs are also important. The best solution aligns with the organization’s security needs, regulatory requirements and workflows.
Q5
How Are Technology and Lifecycle Controls Changing Information Asset Management?
Top Information Asset Management Systems increasingly connect information governance with automated workflows and AI readiness. Structured metadata, linked records and lifecycle histories help preserve context that search tools and AI applications might otherwise miss. Effective platforms can also apply permissions as responsibilities change, trigger reminders for pending actions and maintain activity records for review. These capabilities reduce reliance on manual checks while helping organizations keep information consistent and accessible. Strong systems balance automation with appropriate oversight, ensuring that sensitive records remain protected and that automated processes follow established access and handling requirements.
Q6
What Specific Capabilities Supported In2Bank’s Recognition?
In2Bank’s Information Bank organizes business information around each asset’s identity, relationships and lifecycle. Its capabilities include metadata management, lifecycle-based access controls and process management that connects records with related materials and approval activities. The platform also incorporates storage protection, automated recovery and audit tracking. Protected copies maintained in isolated environments provide an additional recovery option, while lifecycle-based permissions can change as work progresses. These documented capabilities address several practical information management needs: maintaining context, controlling access, recovering information and tracking activity. Together, they explain the platform’s relevance to the information asset management category.
