Rethinking Accessibility for a Dynamic Digital World

AccessiBe

Robert Lopez, CEO
Digital accessibility has become a major challenge for organizations managing digital experiences. As websites evolve through continuous releases and expanding digital ecosystems, maintaining accessibility has become more complex. WebAIM’s 2026 analysis of the home pages of the top one million websites found that 95.9 percent contained detectable Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) failures. The average number of detected errors per page increased 10.1 percent over the previous year, underscoring the challenge of sustaining accessibility over time.

Helping organizations address that challenge is accessiBe, an end-to-end accessibility platform combining AI-powered automation, developer tools and human expertise. accessiBe helps organizations build and manage inclusive and compliant digital experiences throughout the software development lifecycle, embedding accessibility into operations.

“Businesses need to stop treating accessibility as a project and start treating it as an ongoing practice,” says Robert Lopez, CEO.

accessiBe’s platform is strengthened by continuous collaboration with the disability community. Building on partnerships with more than 800 disability-focused organizations, accessiBe established the Inclusive Product Advisory Board, which meets quarterly and brings together community advocates and accessibility professionals whose insights help shape the company’s product roadmap. Complementing this is accessLabs, an embedded team of blind developers and usability analysts who test capabilities using assistive technologies and work with product and engineering teams before features are released. Together, they create a continuous feedback loop in which lived experience informs product development.

Beyond Point-in-Time Compliance

Accessibility problems discovered after release can create rework as teams revisit code and content they have already shipped. accessiBe’s platform helps organizations embed accessibility throughout development. accessFlow integrates accessibility testing into CI/CD pipelines and connects accessibility work with tools including GitHub, Jira and monday.com.

Its new Code Agent reviews GitHub pull requests against WCAG 2.2 AA, flags issues at the line and proposes fixes in the diff. Developers decide what to accept, reject or discuss before code ships. Code Agent is available in beta to eligible accessFlow customers. Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations bring accessibility findings and guidance into supported AI coding assistants, including GitHub Copilot and Cursor.

For organizations requiring scalable runtime remediation, accessWidget applies AI-powered adjustments to programmatically detectable accessibility barriers as website content changes. Today, it supports more than 85,000 websites.

Businesses need to stop treating accessibility as a project and start treating it as an ongoing practice.

When digital experiences demand greater context and judgment, Manual Testing and Custom Remediation (MTCR) combines expert manual testing with custom enhancements delivered through accessWidget.

Organizations requiring deeper validation can complement AI-powered capabilities with manual audits, accessibility conformance documentation using the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), and user testing with people with disabilities.

Accessibility as a Business Imperative

While compliance often starts the conversation, accessiBe believes the value extends much further. Over one billion people worldwide live with disabilities. Together with their families and friends, they represent a market with an estimated $13 trillion in annual disposable income.

The disability community is dynamic. People can acquire disabilities throughout their lives, and accessibility needs can change over time. Features that improve readability, navigation and interaction can benefit a broader range of users, making accessibility a long-term investment in customer experience and business growth.

Generative AI raises the stakes. A June 2026 survey accessiBe conducted with Qualtrics found that 78 percent of the 304 U.S. e-commerce and retail decision-makers surveyed generate at least a quarter of their customer-facing content with AI. E-commerce accounted for 79 percent of digital accessibility lawsuits tracked in UsableNet’s 2026 midyear report. Among surveyed brands that had faced accessibility legal action, 65.4 percent cited AI-generated content as a factor. Clear, well-structured pages help people and search systems understand content.

As accessibility becomes part of digital operations, organizations that invest in it early will be better positioned to meet evolving customer expectations. By integrating developer tools, human expertise and continuous collaboration with the disability community, accessiBe is helping organizations make accessibility a lasting business capability.

Deep Dive

Sustaining ADA Compliance across Changing Websites

Checkout flows, login pages, product filters and embedded widgets rarely remain unchanged long enough for a single accessibility review to stay valid. A website may pass an audit one quarter, only to fall out of conformance after a redesign, feature release or third-party script update. For executives evaluating ADA compliance web accessibility tools, the real question is no longer whether a vendor can identify accessibility barriers. It is whether the program can keep up as the website continues to evolve. Legal risk remains an important consideration, particularly for organizations that sell online or operate public-facing websites. At the same time, procurement teams are recognizing that one-time remediation projects often create a false sense of completion. An audit is delivered, issues are fixed and, before long, many of the same problems return as new pages and features go live. A more practical way to approach accessibility is to treat it as an ongoing discipline, integrated into release cycles and governance processes instead of a one-time cleanup effort. Automation plays an important role in that process, but it cannot do everything. Automated scans are effective at identifying recurring issues at scale, including contrast failures, missing labels, broken keyboard navigation and page structure problems. Human testing is still essential wherever user intent, interaction patterns and assistive technologies determine whether a task actually works. Rather than viewing automation and expert testing as competing options, buyers should focus on finding the right balance. That balance will vary depending on website complexity and the maturity of the organization's development practices. Developer adoption deserves just as much attention. Many accessibility initiatives lose momentum during the transition from audit teams to engineering teams. Findings often arrive outside developers' normal workflows, forcing accessibility fixes to compete with feature delivery. Stronger platforms integrate checks into the development process, provide guidance where developers already work and maintain evidence that can be reviewed later. Reducing risk is only part of the benefit. Fixing issues before release is far less costly than correcting problems after customers encounter them. Documentation should never be treated as an afterthought. Procurement teams need audit records, conformance documentation, remediation history and ownership records that remain useful even as staff changes over time. An effective accessibility program also looks beyond compliance scores to evaluate real usability. Keyboard navigation, screen reader output, form completion and focus order may appear acceptable on a checklist yet still introduce unnecessary friction during a purchase or account management journey. Executives should be cautious of any tool that reduces accessibility to a single score without clearly showing how issues are identified, prioritized, resolved and verified. Community involvement has also become a stronger differentiator because accessibility decisions ultimately affect people whose experiences cannot be understood through code alone. A vendor may produce accurate automated scans yet still overlook language, interactions or interface behaviors that influence how people using assistive technologies experience a website. Evaluation should examine how disability expertise contributes to product development and whether testing reflects real customer journeys instead of generic sample pages. accessiBe stands out as a strong choice for executives looking to move beyond periodic ADA compliance reviews. Its platform includes accessWidget for continuous AI-powered remediation, accessFlow for developer workflows, accessServices for manual audits and VPAT support and MTCR for validating complex user journeys. That offering is reinforced by accessLabs, a team of blind developers and accessibility analysts, together with the Inclusive Product Advisory Board, which helps guide product development. For organizations managing websites that are constantly changing, accessiBe combines automated remediation with human validation in a way that fits naturally into modern development workflows....Read more
