Avasant was recently engaged by one of the largest electricity providers in California to conduct a digital business strategy focused on increasing customer engagement. The electricity provider had three objectives: expand self-service capabilities, increase paperless billing and payment usage, and improve alerts and notifications. Avasant and the provider approached these objectives from a “mobile first” perspective. This perspective involved optimizing basic, core transactions such as billing, payment, and reporting outages for a mobile customer experience. The deployment of smart grid and metering technologies will be immediately available to customers through real-time reporting. From this process, the utility is expected to reduce the cost of customer support by 25 percent and increase customer engagement. “By reducing customer support cost and providing mobile technology support, the utility is more able to compete with solar and alternative energy providers,” says Joslin.
