As sustainability becomes a necessity rather than a trend, energy-efficient solutions play a vital role in advanced computing environments. It not only supports sustainable practices but also ensures reliable, cost-effective performance.

Compuware Technology Inc. (Compuware), a leader in power supply innovation, consistently pushes the envelope of efficiency with a keen focus on sustainable technology. Its high-efficiency server power supply units have remarkable energy efficiency, well above the 80 PLUS Titanium standard of 96 percent. The company aims to achieve 97.5 percent energy efficiency, underscoring its steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and energy conservation.

“Through innovation and customer-centric development, we maintain a strong balance between power efficiency and competitive performance across our product line,” says Bill Liang, president and founder of Compuware.

Minimizing Energy Loss and Maximizing Performance

The process of converting AC/DC input into DC output inherently results in energy loss, primarily in the form of heat due to internal resistance, switching losses and other factors. However, Compuware’s PSUs are designed with advanced materials and architecture to minimize these losses. By reducing energy waste, they not only cut down on electricity costs but also limit heat generation, which enhances system longevity and operational stability—critical for industries that rely on continuous uptime.

Compuware's high-efficiency solutions are particularly essential for power-hungry applications like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC). For example, training a large language model (LLM) such as OpenAI’s GPT-3 consumes approximately 1.3 million kWh of electricity—equivalent to the annual consumption of 130 U.S. households. A 1.5% improvement in power efficiency (from 96 percent to 97.5 percent) can save around 19,500 kWh per training session, enough to power 10 U.S. households for a year. This not only reduces operational costs but also helps lower carbon emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Innovation and Tailored Solutions for Diverse Needs
Compuware recognizes that different industries and clients have diverse power supply requirements. Various applications demand specific voltage levels, current capacities, environmental tolerances and dimensions. Compuware’s competitive edge lies in its design and development expertise, collaborating closely with clients to co-create power supply solutions tailored to their unique needs. This collaboration ensures that products are optimized for performance and brought to market quickly, offering a distinct competitive advantage.

A key innovation is Compuware’s 54V+12V dual-output PSU, the only solution on the market that can simultaneously deliver 54V for GPUs and 12V for CPUs. This cutting-edge technology addresses the unique power requirements of GPU and AI servers, making it a cornerstone of modern GPU infrastructure. Currently, Compuware offers dual-output PSUs with capacities of up to 6,600W. The company also provides 48V PSUs specifically designed for telecommunications and networking applications.

Liquid cooling technology has garnered significant attention in recent years, particularly in server and data center environments, due to its superior thermal management compared to traditional air cooling. Compuware is actively exploring the transition from air to liquid cooling, aiming to develop fan less, noise-reducing and energy-efficient designs—especially critical for large-scale data centers. This initiative reflects Compuware’s continued commitment to advancing sustainable technology.

Standard Modular Power Solutions for Flexibility

In response to the growing demand for standardized, flexible, and modular power supply units, Compuware is actively developing Modular Common Redundant Power Supply (MCRPS) products with output capacities of up to 3,200W. These solutions offer a versatile and convenient option for customers seeking standardized PSUs, with the flexibility for minor adjustments to accommodate future trends in the data center and server industries.

A Trusted Partner in Energy Efficiency

Compuware’s steadfast commitment to minimizing energy loss, maximizing system performance and collaborating closely with customers has made it an indispensable partner for data centers. Its proactive approach to anticipating industry trends and future demands further solidifies its reputation as a leader in power supply technology.
