CTO and Founder, Arterys

John Axerio-Cilies currently leads all technical development at Arterys, an AI healthcare company. He and his fellow co-founders started Arterys in 2011 with the premise that cloud computing would dramatically change healthcare. Arterys specializes in applying deep learning to medical images in order to improve clinical workflow. John worked very closely with the development and machine learning teams at Arterys to develop their first application, a SaaS product to visualize and quantify blood flow in the human body using MRI. Arterys partnered with GE Healthcare to market the product, named ViosWorks, globally in 2016.

Prior to Arterys, John completed his PhD in flow physics and computational engineering at Stanford University. The focus of his research was in numerical simulations of bluff bodies in ground contact, uncertainty quantification, optimization, and high performance computing. He worked in collaboration with the aerodynamics department at Toyota Formula 1, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to identify and resolve wake structures behind rotating wheels.
