John D. Schanz is EVP and Chief Network Officer for Comcast Cable. In this role, he oversees national engineering and network operations for the Company’s industry-leading video, high-speed Internet and voice cable services for residential and business customers. He also leads Platform Services, Comcast’s wholesale and next-generation advertising group.
John is the recipient of the 2013 National Cable & Telecommunications Association Vanguard Award in Science & Technology. In 2012, InfoWorld recognized him with a Technology Leadership Award for his role as the strategic architect of Comcast’s network, systems and service delivery infrastructure platforms that deliver Xfinity products to more than 23 million high-speed Internet customers, 22 million cable customers, and 11 million voice customers.
The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission appointed John to chair the FCC’s Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council. He also serves as co-chairman of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ Energy 2020 initiative. Prior to joining Comcast, John served as Executive Vice President of Network and Data Center Operations for AOL, with responsibility for architecture, planning, design and operation of AOL’s global network infrastructure.
He helped to foster Comcast’s initial participation with FIRST Robotics, which inspires young people’s interest in science and technology. John serves as Chairman of the Cabrini College Board of Trustees. He also serves as a Board of Trustee member for Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School and the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute.
