The Making of a Technology Leader

Curiosity shaped Anton Reza’s approach to technology long before it became his profession. He wrote his first lines of code at the age of eleven and later strengthened his technical foundation through internships in health technology and software engineering. A venture-backed start-up then introduced him to entrepreneurship, where watching a founder close to his own age build a successful company convinced Reza to pursue entrepreneurship himself. His own ventures would later reinforce the importance of building technology around genuine customer problems.

His first entrepreneurial ventures became an important learning ground for that belief. One explored accounting automation, while another developed AI-powered receptionists for businesses. Neither became a lasting success, but both deepened his understanding of customer needs, competitive markets and the role of product-market fit in commercial success.

Experience Before Expansion

The lessons from the ventures continued to influence Reza when he joined the founders who would later establish Clover Labs. Instead of searching for market opportunities, they focused on challenges they had already faced while building and growing their own businesses. Customer acquisition, growth and go-to-market execution became the starting point for products designed to solve familiar operational problems.

Beyond Automation

While much of today’s AI conversation focuses on automation, Reza believes the next challenge lies in improving the quality of AI-generated work. As large language models become more capable, he sees greater opportunity in producing richer outputs with greater depth and judgment. He describes this as giving AI “taste,” the ability to generate responses with stronger context rather than fluent language alone. In his view, a better context will determine how effectively AI supports business decisions.

Technology, however, represents only part of the equation. Reza believes meaningful AI adoption depends just as much on the people using it. Organizations often expect AI to replace complex human work with minimal guidance, yet better outcomes require people who know how to provide context, refine outputs and work alongside the technology.

Leadership that Scales

Reza believes strong engineering organizations are built by the people who shape them. When hiring, he looks beyond technical excellence to identify people who demonstrate initiative, learn continuously and solve problems independently. Technical skills can be taught, but curiosity and ownership build stronger engineering teams. Maintaining quality follows the same principle. Clear expectations, well-defined engineering standards and leaders who model the behaviors they expect create an environment where innovation and discipline reinforce one another.

Looking ahead, Reza expects AI to automate more of the go-to-market process as intelligent systems take on increasingly complex marketing and revenue activities. He sees Clover Labs continuing to expand through practical customer insight and continuous product development.
