When Iraq invaded Kuwait in the summers of 1990, it brought forth a political, cultural, financial, and social plague across the globe, one that we remember to date. The aftermath of the Persian Gulf War had a direct impact on the United States and its allies—a coalition that fought against Iraq—as it cost them nearly $60 billion and set off an economic recession due to a spike in oil prices. However, if only when we look deeper and ponder over the tragedy that the local residents suffered, would we really understand the grave impact that war has on humanity.

“My father was a hard working mechanical engineer, who dedicated nearly eight years of his life serving a Kuwait-based oil company. The war hit him hard. Banks were run over and he lost all his life savings. He went from being a respected citizen to a refugee in no time. And on several occasions, we never even had an idea on his whereabouts,” begins Raj Ramesh, the Founder and President of Cybermedia Technologies (CTEC). “In the days to come, he was airlifted by an Air India flight back to his native India, where he retired for the greater good. These events spurred in me a strong passion to help governments safeguard their national security and serve the society at large. And that’s how I came up with CTEC. This company became my way to repay and thank those who have given every second of their lives protecting people like me and my father.”

Having an intangible passion for positively impacting global security fueled by an impeccable academic pedigree with decades of management, information technology, and software product development experience, Ramesh founded CTEC in 1996. His mission was simple yet powerful—to be a global leader in combining people, technology, and processes to deliver best-in-class solutions to government, businesses, and communities. “We started off serving the U.S. Army in their HR command. This was an umbrella contract encompassing 48 different functions dedicated to serving our returning soldiers from overseas engagements and supporting their families. The success of this project won us four more contracts from the U.S. Army in the same vehicle, giving us the experience required to excel at everything we offer today,” prides Ramesh.

Over the last two decades, CTEC’s range of service offerings has grown extensively. While their initial stint with the U.S. Army allowed them to expand on their Human Capital and Training Solutions, including education and training, HR consulting services, recruitment process outsourcing services, and ePMO support services, the trends that the Internet Era drove enabled them to take it up a notch and provide enterprise applications and infrastructure modernization and cybersecurity services.

“For long, we were bystanders to technological advancements that took place at the time. We witnessed the pc wave, the internet wave, the dot com wave, and the Y2K wave. Now with Digital Services, Cloud, Cybersecurity and IT modernization wave sweeping the federal government, I along with my team decided to be part of it as opposed to being an audience,” says Ramesh.

CTEC, since then, started helping customers—that include but are not limited to the United States Army, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Commerce, Department of State, Office of Personnel Management, National Nuclear Security Administration—achieve Innovation and IT Modernization ensuring the maximum return on their IT and human capital investments.

CTEC today provides technology support services, infrastructure computing services, mission computing services, and enterprise IT and information services. As a result, clients can improve collaboration between development and operations teams, perform automated testing to offload, automate, and service virtualization technology for improved application quality, automate the provisioning of multiplatform applications, databases, and configurations throughout the application lifecycle, and modernize existing applications to transform business-critical systems into flexible applications and services.

We are focusing heavily on AI, ML, RPA, Blockchain technologies, server-less computing micro services, predictive data analytics, intelligent chatbot-based customer service desk, among others and are moving these to the cloud PaaS (Platform as a Service) with an ability to obtain faster Authorization to Operate (ATO),” says Kay Ramesh, Chief Executive Officer, CTEC.

The company’s Digital Services practice analyzes, designs, builds, maintains, and puts in place production equipment, websites, and tools to manage data and information for customers using its AgileDNA+™ framework. Their DevSecOps engineers are proficient in custom computer programming, commercial-off-the-shelf application configuration and customization, custom report development, software development, scripting, and testing. In one instance, CTEC helped modernize OPM’s Retirements Benefits systems and OPM’s Health and Insurance Federal Employee Health Benefits systems using their AgileDNA+ DevSecOps approaches. To meet the requirements, CTEC closely worked with government leadership to drive and support the operationalization of OPMs’ CI/CD pipeline and transformation to operating within an efficient DevSecOps model. CTEC performed a thorough “as-is” assessment to analyze the current state of OPM’s Legacy environment and implemented the CI/CD pipeline. CTEC’s DevSecOps engineers utilized this assessment as a baseline to identify elements of the systems that may require IT modernization. This in-depth analysis of the “as-is” environment helped CTEC engineers to perform activities required to modernize legacy systems which included development of the CI/CD pipeline, integrating Non-Production and Production environments into the current pipeline, and making efficient architecture changes accordingly. Throughout all architecture activities within the environment, CTEC engineers followed a platform-agnostic approach, ensuring that all elements of the environment and pipeline could be utilized across platforms. In another instance, for DHS/USCIS, CTEC has modernized the e-Verify system, which is widely used across the country. “Such instances of success prove that we always stay true to our core values. We always go after contracts in a conscious manner,” says Kay.

The profound focus on modernization and cloud computing paves the way for another prerequisite that the company offers— Cybersecurity. CTEC helps clients with asset management, risk assessment, governance, FISMA assessment and management, access control, awareness and training, data security, analysis, mitigations, and improvements, and recovery planning—basically, everything that matters to owners and operators of critical infrastructure in the 21st century.
