Devis
An Agile Approach to Impactful DevSecOps

Devis

Gerard Werner, CEO
Numerous digital-era companies take a waterfall-style approach to their software development lifecycles, assessing and finalizing each product element before moving it further downstream. While this methodology was effective before the accelerated wave of digital transformation, relying on it in today’s ever-evolving marketplace can cause significant delays and losses. The disruptive shortage of skilled IT talent further compounds this problem.

An expert at helping businesses adopt agile DevSecOps culture and practices, Devis addresses these issues and enables clients to embrace cloudnative architectures and assemble best-in-class toolsets to unleash their productivity and market performance.

“Instead of following independent siloed approaches, our team adopts an agile methodology where we take small chunks of the development lifecycle and concentrate on those before moving forward, speeding up the whole process while cutting costs,” says Gerard Werner, CEO of Devis.

”My Best Contribution as a Leader Would be Building an Environment where Employees can Easily Voice their Needs. This is why we have an Open Door Policy here at Devis, Which Allows me to listen to my Workforce’s Suggestions and Use them to Grow Our Company”

Backed by 30 years of industry experience along with ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001:2013, ISO/ IEC 20000-1:2018, and CMMI Level 3 certifications, Devis assists diverse users with software development, compliance, training, and change management through its iterative execution cycles.

Currently, Devis builds, modernizes, and maintains software solutions as a catalyst for improved government projects, with its products and services operating in over 70 countries and across multiple government agencies.

An Approach to Faster and Safer Software Development

Devis starts every project with an assessment of their needs, where it hones in on a handful of critical elements to ensure the delivery of software that aligns with the client’s business demands. Once identified, it develops the features into a software package, closely working with clients’ security and IT operations teams.

This collaborative approach allows businesses to identify and correct any bugs from the start, minimizing the risk of delays and added expenditures driven by last-minute changes.

These sprints typically take up to two weeks to complete. Subsequently, clients can return to the drawing board and work with Devis to build and add additional software competencies to the developed software package. It essentially allows them to benefit from impactful DevSecOps that makes application and infrastructure development a shared responsibility of the IT ops, security, and development personnel. Above all, Devis makes it easier, faster, and less expensive for clients to fix any emerging problems in their software development lifecycle.

Enabling Agile DevSecOps for Better Business Outcomes

Recently, Devis developed a new software product called Start, designed to provide faster services to a large pool of its client’s end-users. Initially, this client was unhappy with the speed and productivity of a former software development partner’s waterfall-type techniques, which delayed their software’s launch and drove additional expenses. Using its agile approach, Devis identified the crucial hurdles across development, security, and IT operations. Following this, it collaboratively developed the Start program, successfully launching it in April 2022.

Instead of following independent siloed approaches, our team adopts an agile methodology where we take small chunks of the development lifecycle and concentrate on those before moving forward, speeding up the whole process while cutting costs

Successes like this exemplify Devis’ expertise in handling a wide range of software development challenges for businesses of all sizes. At the heart of this proven competency is its leadership team, which has accumulated over 70 years of experience working with large government contractors like Boeing and handling projects across leading businesses, including Booz Allen Hamilton, Deloitte, and Elevance Health.

Powered by Deep Industry Expertise

Before Devis, Werner spent two decades at aerospace giant Boeing and a three-year stint at leading insurance firm Elevance Health.

Initially working as a business and planning analyst team lead at Boeing, he steadily climbed the ranks and became the senior business manager for the aerospace titan’s network and space systems and financial planning and analysis departments.

During his time overseeing the financial and strategic facets of Elevance Health’s government-driven health and information and technology (HIT), he met Patty Thompson. After their initial introduction, Werner combined his expertise with Thompson’s comprehensive background in Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and TRICARE projects to head an ObamaCare-focused project. This is where the duo experienced the power of DevSecOps, which sparked their interest in helming a reliable IT services firm and led to the acquisition of Devis.

Combining Accountability and Agility

From its inception, the team at Devis worked toward the goal of combining the accountability of a large supplier with the agility and nimbleness of a small group of world-class IT experts. When delving into the ‘why’ behind this mission, Werner mentions an instance from his time at Boeing, where he witnessed a simple suggestion from an engineer become a $10 billion annual program for adding robotics into their manufacturing processes.

“This made me realize that my best contribution as a leader would be building an environment where employees can easily voice their needs. This is why we have an open door policy here at Devis, which allows me to listen to my workforce’s suggestions and use them to grow our company,” states Werner.

”Backed by 30 Years of Industry Experience Along with ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001:2013, ISO/IEC 20000- 1:2018, And CMMI Level 3 Certifications, Devis Assists Diverse users with Software Development, Compliance, Training, And Change Management Through its Iterative Execution Cycles”

Following this mantra, Werner hopes to turn Devis into an ecosystem where passionate professionals want to come, stay, and grow. From an organizational standpoint, he wants it to become a reliable and customer-centric partner that equips customers, big and small, with a powerful approach to solving software development problems. In addition, Werner plans to enhance his firm’s philanthropic and communitydriven initiatives by building a program that sponsors autistic teenagers to train and join Devis’ team, boosting the inclusivity of its workspace and overall organizational culture.

Moving forward, Devis is poised to branch out from projects involving the U. S. Department of State and bring technology capabilities like intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) and machine learning to businesses working in the CMS, VA, and other government-related healthcare settings.
