Delivering a Seamless Healthcare Experience

Life doesn’t always give a second chance. But when it does, what an individual does with the second chance counts!

The same held true for Michael O’Neil. He was only 28 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer. After undergoing aggressive surgery and chemotherapy to treat the tumor, he successfully emerged cancer-free. As jubilant as the story sounds, the care journey was not that easygoing for young O’Neil. Throughout his clinical care, he felt utterly helpless not knowing what was happening at each step of the treatment process. After his recovery, he came to realize—like him—there were many other patients who must be experiencing the same ordeal. Inspired by the second chance at life, he made it his mission to educate, engage, and empower patients and their families to take control of the healthcare journeys. As a result, he established his digital health company, GetWellNetwork in 2000.

Today, the company offers a comprehensive range of patient engagement solutions that leverage personalized experiences for patients, enriched by data to deliver a highly connected, seamless experience to patients in every step of their care journey. GetWellNetwork is built on the core idea that ‘a more active and involved patient is a better, healthier patient.’ To that end, from inpatient to outpatient, and physician practices and urgent care clinics, GetWellNetwork offers a cross-continuum patient engagement platform that performs in every care setting. Each day, the GetWellNetwork team strives to give patients and families a voice in their care journey.

The company’s digital care management software is designed to help organizations bridge the gaps that exist between care settings, creating a seamless patient experience from pre-to post-care. “As consumers have become more discerning than ever before, they want to be able to proactively participate in their care journey and play an active role in their treatment decisions,” says Robin Cavanaugh, CTO of GetWellNetwork. However, considering the hectic schedule, physicians do not have the time to call each patient on a daily basis to give them information on their healthcare condition. With GetWell Loop, care teams can engage all patients across their care journey through automated virtual check-ins. By sending the right information at the right time, the digital care management software identifies patients that need immediate help.

Moreover, with GetWell Loop, care teams will be able to reach more patients and proactively intervene before costs and health complications escalate, and patients feel like their care team is with them every step of the way. For instance, one of the most common issues a lot of hospitals face is the unpreparedness of patients for upcoming procedures. “As a result, the surgery typically ends up being cancelled,” mentions Cavanaugh. But with GetWell Loop, reminders preparing the patient for surgery, as well as other healthcare updates, will be delivered to the patient on a daily basis.

To better highlight the efficacy of GetWell Loop, Cavanaugh cites the success story of Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Froedtert Hospital is an active participant with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model. Under CJR, the health system had increased the incentive to reduce the total cost of care for Medicare beneficiaries undergoing total hip and knee replacements. Froedtert Hospital was having trouble maximizing reimbursement under this payment model. GetWellNetwork quickly customized its GetWell Loop software by incorporating patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) strategies and automating the data collection process. Almost immediately, Froedtert’s PROM collection rates increased with no change to provider workflows or impact on staff time. Consequently, the hospital was also able to avoid unnecessary patient visits, which ultimately elevated patient satisfaction and freed up physicians’ time to see new patients.

For more than 20 years, GetWellNetwork has been consistent in delivering true cross-continuum care in a manner that makes consumer engagement and care coordination seamless for patients, families, and providers. Going forward, the company will continue to develop interactive digital solutions that meet the needs of today’s highly-connected healthcare consumers. “We are also working on expanding our solutions and services for the ambulatory and home care settings,” informs Cavanaugh. Alongside, the company is looking to grow geographically across Ireland, the Middle East, Canada, and Australia.

Given the pace at which the healthcare landscape is changing, healthcare providers must now update their priorities in order to remain competitive in the marketplace. And, the first step lies in providing a personalized care journey that is hyper-targeted toward each patient. With its innovative solutions and services, GetWellNetwork is making this process an easy one for every healthcare organization.

Get Well Named to AVIA Marketplace's 2024 Top Smart Rooms Companies

Monday, June 17, 2024

BETHESDA, Md., -- Get Well, the global leader in digital patient engagement, announced today that it was recognized as a 2024 Top Company in Smart Rooms upon conclusion of extensive research and company outreach by AVIA Marketplace, the leading digital health marketplace.

For nearly 25 years, Get Well has delivered digital, consumer-centric experiences to patients and their families throughout their care journeys. The Get Well 360 platform is personalized to individual healthcare needs, factoring in social determinants of health to help organizations provide world-class care. As part of the Get Well 360 platform, Get Well's Smart Room offering provides patients with customizable options to take control over their experiences, expedite paperwork processes, and understand treatment plans. Leveraging AI-powered outreach solutions to reach patients at scale, the platform enables longitudinal engagement and activation to serve beyond the hospital setting on a long-term basis.

"When we founded Get Well, we were committed to creating a patient Smart Room that would transform the way patients experience their care and the way clinicians work. This recognition validates our commitment to empowering healthcare providers and helping them enhance patient satisfaction, improve outcomes, and drive long-term loyalty," said Michael O'Neil, CEO and Founder of Get Well. "We're proud to serve the majority of AVIA's client base with our Smart Room technology and build upon our relationships with health system executives."

The 2024 Top Smart Rooms Companies Report represents the aggregation and analysis of client ratings and reviews as well as health system implementation data across the country and highlights broader industry trends to contextualize the impact the companies and products are currently having in the space. Given the complexity and evolving nature of the Smart Rooms, the report helps define the Smart Rooms landscape and how these solutions best support patient access.

"Patients today expect a seamless, technology-enabled experience during their healthcare journey, and smart rooms are pivotal in meeting this demand. Our research underscores the transformative power of smart rooms in enhancing patient safety, comfort, and outcomes by integrating advanced monitoring, automation, and communication systems," said Dhiraj Patkar, SVP of Digital Health Solutions at AVIA.

This announcement builds on recent recognition Get Well has received from market intelligence firms including being named to AVIA Marketplace's list for Top Patient Education Companies and selected as the #1 Market Leader for Patient Driven Care by KLAS in their 2024 Best in KLAS report.
