GMP Sistemas
Intelligent Payroll Built for Mexico’s Evolving Business Landscape

GMP Sistemas

José Fernando Hernández Obregón, Founder and CEO
Payroll is more than simply a process of paying employees. It is the endpoint of numerous interconnected actions. Attendance, vacations, leave, employee transfers and promotions all affect the final paycheck. When those processes occur in separate systems, spreadsheets and interfaces, every handoff includes risks of inconsistent data, duplicated work and errors.

GMP Sistemas transforms payroll from a reactive administrative function into an intelligent, predictive and increasingly autonomous operation. Founded in 1998, it develops and customizes payroll and HR technology for midsize and large organizations with deep knowledge of the complex payroll and regulatory requirements in Mexico.

“Payroll is no longer an administrative process,” says José Fernando Hernández Obregón, founder and CEO. “It is becoming an autonomous, intelligent operation.”

GMP Sistemas launched Open HR in 1998 as a payroll solution. As it addressed the various requirements of its clients, it recognized how closely payroll depended on the HR processes feeding into it. Those requirements varied considerably, from payroll models and collective agreements to accounting structures and integrations with attendance devices, ERP systems and benefit providers.

Over time, Open HR evolved into an integrated human resources and payroll platform. Now, Open HR11 Cloud unifies payroll, HR, attendance, analytics and budgeting, while Humanet HR11 provides employees with self-service access to HR and payroll information. People analytics add real-time workforce insights, and intelligent payroll features extend the platform toward predictive and increasingly autonomous operations.

Building Technology That Adapts to the Organization

GMP Sistemas currently has 600 active installations representing approximately 630 entities. Across its broader base, the technology supports more than 350,000 employees and generates over 6.5 million payroll CFDIs annually. Open HR11 Cloud is currently used by 12 clients, covering approximately 9,000 employees.

Profuturo, a major Mexican financial services organization, provides a clear example of how GMP Sistemas meets the specialized requirements of complex organizations. The client operates with specialized payroll and HR processes that require close coordination between technology, integrations and operational controls. Instead of imposing a generic configuration, GMP Sistemas worked with Profuturo to adapt Open HR and Humanet HR to its operating model.

“Payroll is no longer an administrative process. It is becoming an autonomous, intelligent operation.”

The approach provided Profuturo with a single foundation for employee information, payroll processes, self-service and specialized requirements. This reduced the need to reconcile information from disconnected sources. A smaller team is able to manage a large employee base with greater control and traceability required fewer manual interventions.

Profuturo employees gained easy access to payroll and HR information through self-service, reducing their dependency on HR for routine requests. Management gained consolidated information and analytics that shortened the time needed to understand payroll status, investigate exceptions and make decisions.

The solution also gave Profuturo room to grow while maintaining a streamlined payroll department. There was no need to sacrifice accuracy or the personalized operating model it required.

“Large organizations do not want to adapt their business to rigid software. They need technology capable of adapting to their operation,” says Obregón.

Connecting HR Events to Payroll

Open HR11 Cloud keeps employee information and organizational rules within a common platform, allowing approved events to become payroll incidents according to each organization's policies.

The connected structure moves information through the workflow without requiring teams to recreate it. Vacation, absence and overtime can flow into payroll with the information and authorization required for processing.

Attendance data can be entered via GMP Sistemas' biometric technology or from any third-party systems. The platform applies work schedules, tolerances, overtime rules and authorization levels before sending validated attendance incidents to payroll.

Meanwhile, Humanet HR11 carries employee requests through approval workflows, allowing approved transactions to reach payroll with traceability. Conversational AI also allows employees to initiate leave requests, extending self-service into everyday payroll-related activity.

Payroll teams can work by exception rather than manually reconstructing payroll inputs while employees can submit requests, review balances and access information without depending on HR intervention.

The connected payroll process also provides role-based access, audit trails and validations at critical stages. By checking information before calculation, authorization, CFDI stamping and bank disbursement, the platform gives teams opportunities to address issues before they affect payments, taxes or compliance.

Its GMP–Rackspace hosting model provides an environment designed for availability, security, backup, monitoring and disaster recovery, reducing the responsibilities for client IT teams. Specialists monitor changes from Mexico's tax, social security, housing and labor authorities, incorporating relevant requirements into the technology and communicating them to clients before they take effect.

Turning Payroll Data Into Workforce Insight

Payroll information becomes more valuable when organizations can use it to understand what is happening within the workforce, not simply calculate compensation. GMP Sistemas uses people analytics, including its payroll cost dashboard, to help management understand workforce costs and emerging patterns.

“People analytics changes the conversation from reporting what happened to deciding what should happen next,” says Obregón.

The payroll cost dashboard allows management to monitor overtime, bonuses, variable compensation and other cost drivers by company, business unit, cost center or time period. Instead of waiting for a month-end report, leaders can identify deviations early enough to investigate the causes, adjust staffing or control recurring expenses.

Our goal is to equip HR professionals with the capability to supervise intelligent operations and focus their time on talent, culture and strategic decisions.

Real-time indicators support decisions related to absenteeism, attendance, CFDI status, headcount and payroll execution. The practical advantage is the ability to direct attention to exceptions and act before a trend becomes a financial, operational or employee-relations problem.

GMP Sistemas also applies this analytical approach to gender equity, where patterns in compensation and career progression can influence broader workforce decisions. Its gender equity dashboard helps HR and senior management identify salary gaps, differences in promotions and imbalances in career progression, providing an objective basis for compensation reviews, succession decisions and diversity initiatives.

Shaping the Next Stage of Payroll Intelligence

Customer experience shapes how GMP Sistemas develops its technology. Clients value its understanding of Mexican payroll requirements, as well as its ability to adapt its products to the way they work.

Client requests for easier access and less reliance on internal infrastructure accelerated the move to Open HR11 Cloud. Demand for faster answers also prompted more conversational ways to access information, with responses grounded in context. The cloud model reduces the need to maintain servers and databases while preserving established payroll rules and controls, along with existing integrations. Clients also wanted greater oversight before finalizing payroll. These requests led to intelligent anomaly detection and proactive alerts that flag issues requiring attention.

GMP Sistemas maintains direct expert support as AI takes on routine assistance, with 24/7 coverage available according to the contracted service.

“Our goal is to equip HR professionals with the capability to supervise intelligent operations and focus their time on talent, culture and strategic decisions,” says Obregón.

Moving From Prediction to Autonomy

GMP Sistemas sees payroll evolving from reactive administration toward predictive and increasingly autonomous operations. Open HR smart assist and the future autopilot model reflect this direction by extending intelligence into recurring human capital management activities.

Human judgment remains essential in this model. The vision is for professionals to retain responsibility for oversight and consequential decisions, with intelligent systems taking on recurring activity.

Recognition of GMP Sistemas as Cloud-Based HR Management Software of the Year in Latin America 2026 reflects an approach that combines cloud modernization with payroll specialization, adaptability, regulatory expertise, and increasingly intelligent HR operations.

For GMP Sistemas, the objective is not automation for its own sake. It is to make payroll safer, faster, auditable and less dependent on individual knowledge while allowing intelligent agents to assume more routine operations over time.

Deep Dive

Keeping Payroll Connected Before the Final Calculation

Payroll errors in large organizations often begin far from the final calculation. Attendance records may sit in one system while leave approvals live in another. Benefits data can arrive late, accounting rules may differ by entity and statutory changes can alter the process before internal teams have updated their controls. A cloud HR platform must do more than host payroll online. It must connect the sources that shape each payment and preserve traceability across every handoff. The first test is whether the software can manage payroll as part of a wider employee data flow. Time records, approved absences, employee movements and compensation changes should feed the same ruleset used for calculation. Re-entering data across separate tools creates hidden reconciliation work and makes errors harder to isolate. Integration with attendance devices, finance systems and benefit providers also matters, but flexibility is more important than the number of connections. Large organizations often operate under different agreements, calendars, attendance rules and accounting structures, so configuration must reflect how each entity works without fragmenting control. Regulatory depth carries equal weight. Labor and tax requirements in Mexico can change with limited notice. Buyers should examine how updates are researched and tested before release, as well as the support available before deadlines take effect. Centralized records, audit trails, role-based permissions and validations before critical payroll stages help teams catch exceptions before bank files or tax documents are released. Cloud delivery adds convenience, but it also raises questions about backup, monitoring, access control and recovery. Those responsibilities need clear ownership rather than vague assurances. GMP Sistemas maintains a specialized team that tracks SAT, IMSS, INFONAVIT and labor requirements and prepares corresponding product updates. “GMP Sistemas brings payroll, HR, attendance, employee self-service, budgeting and analytics into a connected technology environment built for complex Mexican organizations." Daily usability is another dividing line. Employee self-service can reduce routine HR traffic, yet poorly designed portals simply move confusion from one channel to another. Request workflows should reflect approval rules and send accepted events directly into payroll. Managers need current information on payroll status and cost movement without waiting for month-end reports. HR teams also benefit when the software directs attention to exceptions instead of forcing them to review complete files each cycle. The practical gain comes from shorter investigation time and fewer manual checks, not from dashboards alone. Cost visibility should also reach beyond final payroll totals. Decision-makers need to trace overtime and variable compensation by business unit or period while there is still time to investigate. Useful analytics should expose unusual movement, assign review responsibility and keep reporting tied to the transactions that produced each reported figure. Implementation deserves scrutiny because payroll migrations carry little tolerance for disruption. A credible provider should preserve proven rules and interfaces while moving the client to a new architecture. Support should remain available after launch, especially when custom logic or local compliance requirements are involved. Buyers should favor vendors that control both the product and its delivery from implementation through continued support. Split accountability can slow issue resolution. GMP Sistemas brings payroll, HR, attendance, employee self-service, budgeting and analytics into a connected technology environment built for complex Mexican organizations. Open HR11 Cloud integrates payroll and human capital processes with attendance, People Analytics and AI-assisted functionality, while Humanet HR11 handles employee self-service and guided transactions. Approved attendance, leave and vacation events can flow into payroll in accordance with each client’s rules, reducing the need for repeated entry and reconciliation. The platform also supports validations before calculation, authorization, CFDI stamping and bank disbursement, backed by a team that monitors changes involving SAT, IMSS, INFONAVIT and Mexican labor requirements. Clients using the GMP–Rackspace hosting model gain an environment designed around availability, security, backup, monitoring and disaster recovery. Because GMP Sistemas develops, implements, customizes and supports its own products, the payroll rules, compliance updates and day-to-day support remain with the same provider as the organization moves to the cloud....Read more
