The development of materials has always played a crucial role in advancing human society. Over the past 30 years, the rapid emergence of nanomaterials, exemplified by silicon-based nanochips and nanotechnology has had a profound impact on the arrival of the Information Age.

Nanomanufacturing involves production of materials, structures and devices at nanoscale, and it has revolutionized almost every aspect of our lives including electronics, healthcare, energy, communication etc. It is the holy grail of advanced manufacturing. However, conventional nanomanufacturing has its limitations such as high cost, the need for sophisticated equipment, and limited yield. The human society once again finds itself at a crossroad of seeking the next advancement in the era of nanomanufacturing.

“We’re at the forefront of redefining nanomanufacturing by eliminating these traditional limitations,” says Frank Yao, Managing Director and CEO of Innofocus Photonics Technology.

Innofocus has been committed to innovations in intelligent laser nanomanufacturing that redefine precision, resolution and automation, empowering them to pioneer the transformation to photon-based nanomanufacturing. It surpasses the boundaries of traditional nanotechnology by introducing 3D structures, even at sizes as small as ten nanometers.

The intelligent 3D laser nanofabrication equipment developed by Innofocus highlights non-invasive recharacterization of materials. It leads to creations of unique 3D nanostructures exhibiting unprecedented properties and performance, which can profoundly transform sectors of our society. Through flexible control over material properties including optical, electrical, magnetic, mechanical and thermal characteristics, it becomes feasible to optimise materials to meet industrial requirements in various application scenarios, driving development of cutting-edge miniature devices and novel nanomaterial properties.

Taking information and communications technology (ICT) as an example, Innofocus’ technologies can create not 2D but arbitrary 3D structures to enable fine manipulation of photons instead of electrons. This empowers signal processing with low power consumption, expanded bandwidth, higher speed, and no heat generation. It can have great impacts on industries including optical communication, sensing, computing, infrastructure, mining, and medical devices.

Innofocus’ nanomanufacturing capabilities feature large-area processing of materials at high speed, high resolution and high precision. Their equipment integrates frontier technologies of machine vision and AI-assisted accuracy control to achieve intelligent automation, lowering threshold for operation, resulting in much higher yield, thereby leveraging cost efficiency.

Innofocus identifies their technologies as enabling platforms to develop disruptive industrial solutions in the forms of new equipment, new devices and new materials. The company has focused on intelligent laser nanofabrication equipment and holographic imaging equipment development, enabled advanced photonic devices manufacturing and also new nanostructured materials development, all of which aim to drive advancement into the era of nanomanufacturing.

To just name a few, Innofocus’ HoloView 3DRI metrology equipment is the world’s first commercially available nanofabrication system, to ever equip with in-situ 3D refractive index characterization and imaging functionalities. It could play an irreplaceable role in developing and commercializing integrated photonic chips and devices.

In the domain of Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) devices, Innofocus has developed the femtosecond-laser manufactured Ultrafast FBG (UFBG), capable of enduring temperatures up to 1000 degrees and offering outstanding performance under extreme pressure conditions. It finds valuable applications in mining, oil and gas, and versatile sensing potentials.

We're at the forefront of redefining nanomanufacturing by eliminating the limitations of traditional methods.

Innofocus has also engineered an electricity-free Cooling Film that can be attached to various products, reducing internal temperatures without power consumption. This flexible cooling film, integrated with unique 3D nanostructures, has diverse applications from food preservation in supply chain to door-to-door seafood transport. The company is collaborating with several foundations under the UN’s initiative, developing self-cooling pill boxes for medicine distribution in African remote villages, showcasing the global impact of technology.

Innofocus has committed to open collaborations with their clients and research institutions across sectors such as optical communication, microfluidic devices, optical imaging, biomedical research, plasma studies, natural materials, optical electronics devices, and pharmaceuticals, working towards a multitude of innovation through nanomanufacturing. Demonstrating such commitment to continuous innovation is its 1000-square-meter Nano Manufacturing Plant (NMP), located at Melbourne. The company also plans to establish more such labs in the future.

The company is at the forefront of reinventing advanced manufacturing and revolutionizing photon-based nanomanufacturing. Innofocus is not just pushing the boundaries; it’s rewriting the rules, leading the way into a future of limitless possibilities.
