Promethean: Where Vision and Experience Merge with Dedication to Client Success

John Williamson, COO, Promethean Software Services

In 1995, "EC/EDI, Inc." was founded by Steve Montgomery, eventually evolving into what is now Promethean Software Services.

Steve's entrepreneurial vision was to create a solid business model allowing companies of all sizes to outsource their EDI processes entirely. Steve's idea was to create a company that offered a service that would handle all aspects of doing business via EDI, including the required hardware, software, and personnel. This third-party service would be a strategic option for companies that want to avoid taking on the cost and processing issues of doing EDI themselves.

When Steve started the business, it was a simple operation, utilizing EDI-to-fax, consulting services, and a primary EDI translator. At that time, Steve was the sole owner and the sole employee.

In September 1995, John Williamson started employment at EC/EDI, Inc., headquartered in Hudson, Ohio. Steve and John had known each other for about six years at that time and had worked together while John was consulting for another company. When John joined EC/EDI, Inc., he worked primarily as a consultant at client sites, providing EDI and other technical consulting to help build the company's revenue base.

EC/EDI expanded its clientele and team in the following years. New team members specialized in offering technical support for the EDI system, consulting, and administrative tasks. Initially, some jobs were performed on-site for clients, but as time passed, most of the work shifted to being handled remotely from the company's headquarters.

In January 2004, EC/EDI, Inc. moved its headquarters to Twinsburg, Ohio. With this transition, they again expanded their staff, built a self-contained data center, and markedly enhanced their security, technical support, monitoring, and backup systems, showcasing their commitment to cutting-edge infrastructure.

As the years progressed, EC/EDI experienced a consistent rise in its customer base and revenue. By 2006, they served approximately 60 clients, continually enhancing and customizing their services to cater to their specific needs. In 2008, they ventured into further software development to augment the already successful Managed EDI Services. This move aimed to amplify the MES capabilities and diversify their service offerings. To reflect this evolution and broader vision, the company repositioned itself as Promethean Software Services, Inc.

The "Promethean Difference" lies in its unwavering dedication to evolving alongside its clients, ensuring they always have the best tools and services at their fingertips, and positioning itself as a service provider and a dynamic partner for the future.

By 2013, Promethean made a significant move by establishing a state-of-the-art headquarters in Stow, Ohio. This move came with extensive enhancements in their workspace, data center infrastructure, processing expertise and storage capacity, disaster recovery protocols, and overall network performance.

Towards the end of 2013, Promethean embarked on a revamped sales and marketing campaign. This initiative aimed at rebranding and adopting a bolder sales strategy in the Managed EDI sector, projecting a more vibrant and contemporary image that mirrored the advancements and maturity the company and its products had achieved.

By 2015, Promethean further elevated its services. The company significantly enhanced its data translation capabilities, introducing a versatile, any-to-any data conversion system. This innovation expanded their service portfolio, offering even more tailored solutions to their clientele.

Promethean continued to make strides in data visibility, reporting, and analytics. Harnessing the abundant EDI data, they've established a robust infrastructure. This framework has enabled them to offer clients online tools and reporting mechanisms to monitor data volumes, discern trends, and access detailed product and pricing insights via intuitive online dashboards.

Promethean has consistently showcased a commitment to innovation, client-centric solutions, and industry foresight throughout its journey. Promethean stands out as a trailblazer by embracing feedback, integrating technological advancements, and foreseeing market needs. The "Promethean Difference" lies in its unwavering dedication to evolving alongside its clients, ensuring that they always have the best tools and services at their fingertips, and positioning itself as a service provider and a dynamic partner for the future.
