With the rise of smart buildings, cloud computing, and IoT in the last decade, the term “Proptech” has gained ubiquity. However, integrating disparate building functions, such as elevator operation, access control, HVAC, lighting, lease management, and rent payments is still a major challenge. The primary reason is that all the products and technologies are developed, distributed, installed, and operated by a vast array of different businesses.

Kastle Systems has been able to address this challenge with its open technology platform, which is configured, installed, monitored, and maintained by the company in order to preserve the unique advantages in design and application.

Further, the company’s managed services approach helps clients ensure that the technology works together and can be supported and maintained to deliver on its promise. Kastle benefits greatly because its technology is built with an open architecture, so the access control can readily integrate with the broad spectrum of other proptech operations.

“For Kastle, access management integrates with many property operations,” says Haniel Lynn, the CEO of Kastle Systems. “It also leaves a data trail for how interactions between a person and space over time.”

Technology and data have been core aspects of Kastle’s business from the beginning. The organization was founded on the idea of securing property operations for clients as an ongoing service to enable them to focus on their core business. The company aims to provide a differentiated experience for occupants based on the unique user profile and needs of the client user, down to the individual level, and enable spaces to be more secure, more efficient, and more convenient.

Kastle’s biggest differentiator is that they operate a SaaS model “Security as a Service” where technology and operations are delivered as an ongoing managed service.

This allows the company to keep up with broader technology innovation and monitor and maintain the system, hardware, and software, all while creating a continuous service relationship such that the client doesn’t get stuck with outdated technology.

Some of the Covid-related integrations showcase Kastle’s ability to integrate with partner technologies and building operations, to help properties perform more effectively and provide healthier work environments.

In one case, Kastle partnered with CLEAR, the secure identity company frequently seen in airports around the world for identity verification prior to boarding flights,. They integrated CLEAR’s state-of-the-art Health Pass technology with Kastle’s Access Control system to provide a simple solution to help employers implement health and vaccination status screening as company policies. CLEAR’s Health Pass links with Kastle’s access system to authorize or restrict building and suite access to help employers provide a cohesive technology solution to ensure employees’ health and safety as they start to return to the office.

For Kastle, access management integrates with many property operations

In another example, Monday Properties, a major commercial real estate company, and Kastle partnered to implement KastleSafeSpaces, an integrated, building-wide plan to safeguard the health and safety of workers returning to the workplace.

“Since we effectively run the system we install, there is nothing lost in translation between vision, intent, implementation and ongoing performance,” says Lynn. “Our proptech succeeds at working with other changing systems because we are always engaged servicing our clients to make it happen.”

Integrated Thinking for Office Physical and Cyber Security

Haniel Lynn, CEO, Kastle Systems
Most business leaders are not security experts, but they also don’t have to be. With cloud-based access control solutions that can be managed remotely, office and facility managers can be confident that their physical office will remain secure and client data will remain protected
