Redefining Critical Asset Monitoring

Kauel

Image processing expert, Kauel is a leader in leveraging computer vision and AI models and combining them with industry 4.0 tools like IoT, big data, SLAM, AR, and VR to solve some of the major concerns of the contemporary world. It builds software and hardware-based solutions that revolutionize activities like critical asset monitoring, logistics and inventory management, as well as creating virtual worlds for educational activities, and employee training.

Kauel’s latest innovation, K-Alert, is a one-of-a-kind SaaS technology that addresses the risks, human errors, and expenses associated with manually monitoring critical infrastructures like gas pipelines, power transmission lines, railways, highways, and borders. Instead of maintenance managers surveilling sites using bikes, trucks, or by walking, K-Alert’s AI analyzes multiple terabytes of images and generates online and real-time georeferenced alerts for risks associated with these assets.

“K-Alert monitors sites 24/7, instead of weekly manual inspection. It sends clients’ integrity and maintenance managers timely notifications on any present or future concerns within their critical infrastructures,” says Juan Carlos Gallardo Hurtado, general manager of Kauel.

Around-the-clock monitoring enables clients to take corrective actions and prevent disasters such as fuel spills and fires, prevent accidents to individuals, and protect critical infrastructure. The monitoring is also comprehensive, recognizing over 20,000 elements in the captured images, including excavators, drilling machinery, illegal valves, corrosion in metal structures, individuals in suspicious situations, animals, and vegetation. K-Alert also has extensive experience monitoring over two million kilometers of critical infrastructure worldwide, making it a trusted choice for oil and gas, energy, and mining industries.

K-Alert's technological prowess stems from Kauel’s engineering experts worldwide and a fleet of drones and UAVs in its operating countries. The company has focused on the country-specific monitoring needs of clients while developing machine learning and deep learning algorithms from the ground up, allowing the technology to adapt to different geographical locations.

Consequently, clients can avoid making extensive infrastructure investments or software development, and use the SaaS technology cost-effectively for monitoring assets per their country’s specific geographical and regulatory requirements. To comply with North American geographic and regulatory requirements, team Kauel’s next endeavor is to develop K-Alert 2.0.

Beyond critical asset monitoring, Kauel’s other significant technological contributions include using IoT, AR, and VR to pioneer the creation of the first digital twins for power generation plants and substations eight years ago in Chile.

Kauel also has a second business line focused on building virtual worlds in the Metaverse, facilitating educational activities, and enhancing technical training in Latin America. It is building vision computing-based telerehabilitation tools for children with physical disabilities. It also has a platform that offers simulation rooms for courses, workshops, and evaluation activities for diverse operations like wound healing, metal welding, and electrical maintenance. The firm is in discussions with industries like oil and gas, energy, mining, and military within the countries it operates to implement these immersive training and development plans. This can revolutionize education and training cost-effectively with VR and AR, improving knowledge retention and practical skills.

Kauel is also involved in developing diverse sensor types and models, like multi-spectral bands, LiDAR, penetrating radars, synthetic aperture radars, and other space technologies to foster a more advanced and interconnected world.

“Using advancements in AI, transmission, storage, and computing power, we are poised to develop cutting-edge solutions within Latin America and revolutionize security, quality control, and critical infrastructure inspection to make the world a better place,” says Gallardo.
