Peter Silkin’s professional journey is a testament to the depth and breadth of expertise that comes from decades of hands-on and strategic leadership in aviation maintenance. Starting his career as an aircraft maintenance engineer apprentice with Conair Aerial Firefighting in the late 1990s, Silkin has steadily risen through the ranks, amassing over 25 years of experience across Canada’s aviation sector. His career has been marked by progressive leadership roles with some of the country’s key airlines, including KF Aerospace, Canadian North, WestJet and Aspire Airlines.

Over the years, Silkin has evolved from managing front-line maintenance teams to leading large-scale operations in senior roles such as director of maintenance and engineering. He has directly overseen teams exceeding 100 employees and led key functions including engine shop management for CFM56 and LEAP-1B engines, aircraft records evaluation and major repair and modification programs. His expertise also extends to aircraft imports, lease and contract negotiations and managing heavy maintenance checks. Silkin's systems fluency spans several major platforms, including Swiss-AS AMOS, TRAX, SMART and RAMCO, reflecting his aptitude for integrating technology with operational excellence.

This steady progression from technical specialist to senior leadership has given him a comprehensive view of maintenance operations, from tarmac decisions to boardroom strategy.

In his current role as director of engineering maintenance at Flair Airlines, Silkin has spent the past three and a half years steering the airline’s maintenance strategy through a period of rapid growth and operational complexity. Based in Calgary, he leads all facets of aircraft maintenance for Flair’s Boeing 737 fleet, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory compliance in every aspect of the operation. Under his guidance, the airline has enhanced its maintenance programs by optimizing AMOS workflows and placing greater emphasis on aircraft modifications, inspections and engine performance.
