Aligning Airline Operations with Intelligent Technology

Charles Sucur, Director, IT Service and Asset Management

Charles Sucur is the Director of IT Service and Asset Management at American Airlines, where he leads strategies to strengthen IT resilience, reduce disruptions and improve service delivery. For over 29 years, he has held key leadership roles across IT service management, mobility, security and flight service systems. A frequent speaker on IT transformation and cybersecurity, Sucur holds a B.S. in Aeronautical Studies from Embry-Riddle. His career reflects a strong focus on integrating technology with frontline operations to empower teams and ensure seamless travel.

From Ground Operations to Digital Transformation

Since the beginning of his tenure in aviation, Sucur has been a driving force in aligning airline operations with technology innovation. With deep experience in workforce systems and crew operations, Sucur brings a frontline-informed lens to enterprise IT leadership. Today, as Director of IT Service and Asset Management at American Airlines, he leads efforts to minimize operational disruption and strengthen resiliency across complex IT systems that keep the airline moving.

What sets Sucur apart is his firsthand connection to aviation's operational heart. He doesn’t just implement systems—he designs them around the real-world rhythms of flight crews, gate agents and support teams. This mindset led to one of the industry's most impactful innovations—the launch of the first-ever Flight Attendant Tablet, a digital suite that enriched customer experience and boosted inflight retail capabilities.

Bridging Operations, Labor and Innovation

Serving as the connective tissue between airline management, labor groups and technology vendors, Sucur has consistently bridged operational needs with innovative IT solutions. He was instrumental in integrating Trans World Airlines (TWA) Crew Computerized Airline Management System (CAMS) with American’s Flight Operations System/Data Entry Control System (FOS/DECS) and transitioning Reno Air’s flight deck scheduling into mainline systems, modernizing legacy infrastructure while safeguarding operational continuity during key mergers.

In another critical initiative, he led the rollout of the AirVision Food & Beverage System, significantly improving meal forecasting, inventory logistics and disaster recovery. His strength in crossfunctional collaboration also positioned him as a valuable contributor to labor-management forums, including the APA/AA Joint Scheduling Committee and pilot contract negotiation teams, where he acted as a subject matter expert in compliance and system optimization.

Leading with Continuity, Delivering with Precision

Today, Sucur leads with a focus on proactive system monitoring and data-driven service enhancements that minimize disruptions and speed recovery. Under his direction, American Airlines has adopted a modern IT Service Management (ITSM) and asset management framework that improves visibility, drives efficiency and aligns IT operations with broader business goals.

Throughout his career, Sucur has earned a reputation for steady leadership, strategic foresight and practical execution. As a respected voice in industry circles and a pioneer of crew-centered innovation, his influence extends far beyond systems—he has helped reshape the role of technology in serving the people at the heart of aviation.
