Opening New Revenue Sources for SMBs through Cross-Selling

Ada Liu, CEO and Founder
A customer’s journey doesn’t end at the point of sale. A cluster of business opportunities arises after the purchase, and that’s where cross-selling plays a major role. According to a survey by HubSpot, 74 percent of businesses that cross-sell witness revenue growth of more than 30 percent. But reaching out to the right customers and recommending the perfect products based on their purchase behaviors require the proper utilization of cutting-edge technology and data.

While working for a leading telecommunication service provider in Hong Kong, Ada Liu saw the untapped potential of cross-selling in e-commerce. As Liu was responsible for digital transformation of the company, aimed to improve operation efficiency and increase company profit through cross-selling, she got the opportunity to converse directly with businesses and technology vendors. She realized that SMBs lacked an end-to-end platform that could help them crosssell and improve the bottom line. Liu decided to take up the responsibility and set the foundation of mint.io, an e-commerce platform to help online businesses cross-sell to consumers and bring mutual benefits to partners.

“The existing cross-selling platforms primarily focus on email marketing and different promotional strategies, which leads to a one-time purchase. My goal is to challenge this status quo by targeting the entire customer journey,” says Liu, founder and CEO, mint.io.

The cross-selling platform that mint.io is developing is powered by a sophisticated AI recommendation engine. It has the capability to have a real-time understanding of customer behavior and suggest related products or services that belong to mint.io partners. Consequently, they can increase revenue and improve brand recognition. For example, in the beginning, mint.io is focusing on the wedding industry. If consumers look for services to plan their wedding, its platform is able to provide all the recommendations that make their journey as seamless as possible. It can also recommend ancillary services or solutions based on consumer behaviors and requirements.

“Our platform is highly customer-centric. It does not just act as an assistant but as a friend, supports end customers at every step,” says Liu.

“Through precis suggestions, we eliminate the need to run multiple promotions, which can negatively impact customer experience. mint.io is on the track to revolutionize how products and services are recommended.”

mint.io realizes that cutting-edge technology alone cannot make the customer journey fulfilling; it requires human intervention as well. Once commercialized, the company will offer customer services to make the platform more user-friendly.

Another important aspect of the mint.io solution is its ability to recommend suitable customers to the service providers. For instance, a wedding photographer who specializes in clicking artistic photographs will be recommended to the customers according to their specialization. As a result, the platform will be able to serve both parties holistically.

The existing cross-selling platforms primarily focus on email marketing and different promotional strategies, which leads to a one-time purchase. My goal is to challenge this status quo by targeting the entire customer journey

Currently, mint.io is all set to introduce the first version of the product to the market. The company expects to make necessary improvements and make the platform more robust going forward based on feedback from early users. More important, the potential of the product is not limited to the wedding space; it can impact every industry where the customer journey matters.

mint.io is disrupting the traditional cross-selling market with a more sophisticated solution. It increases the likelihood of converting clicks on promotional ads into customers. This will ultimately allow businesses to reach their goals faster and without friction.
