Robust Software Solution for Secure Remote Access

In the past, organizations have shared and accessed their files remotely via VPNs. Today, they seek a software solution that enables users to access files remotely and enhance the security of their network without requiring a massive migration.

This is where MyWorkDrive comes into the picture.

MyWorkDrive software lets users add cloud functionality and secure remote access to Windows File Shares and Active Directory infrastructure without a VPN. With MyWorkDrive, customers can set up a web file manager interface and share the link with users to allow access to all files. As the format resembles the existing Windows Explorer, there is no training needed. The software opens a specific port that gives users access to individual MyWorkDrive servers. Customers can set up a web application firewall and other security products within that port to secure data from risks such as exposure of the entire network to malware, and DDoS and spoofing attacks.

MyWorkDrive has put a lot of effort into making the onboarding process simple. For example, a customer with a windows server can install MyWorkDrive software on their infrastructure—on-prem or in the cloud—without transferring data, such as existing usernames, passwords and single sign-on to a third-party database, vendor, or cloud storage. Also, the company has partnered with Cloudflare, allowing customers to access their files full-time through that infrastructure, enhancing security, performance, and reliability.

“By installing our software in customers’ existing infrastructure, they can have a portal that users can access within minutes. The procedure is so quick that the first email notification to the customer would state, start uploading your files,” says Daniel Gordon, CEO and Founder, MyWorkDrive.

In the USA and Europe, MyWorkDrive has a sizable clientele, including those from large enterprises, hospitals, and other healthcare providers that prefer not to retain their information in a format or location that is not within their agency’s control. Owing to their cumulative experience, the company has also learned that MyWorkDrive is a perfect fit for the higher education sector.

It became popular with clients like Oxford University. These clients want to secure systems from a compliance perspective to prevent data breaches and users from placing files on other devices. To meet all their compliance requirements, MyWorkDrive incorporates numerous security features into the software, each of which acts as an extra layer of security.

Customers retain control of all systems and files while sharing and editing files remotely over the cloud without worrying about security

All these capabilities have enabled MyWorkDrive to serve numerous clients over the years. For instance, a large government with many users utilizing a VPN wanted a way to edit and remotely work on files more securely. This requirement increased significantly with COVID. MyWorkDrive provided the government’s infrastructure with advanced features that allow users to share and collaborate on files through an Office Online, a local server or even through a browser, from anywhere. In addition, the government can maintain data sovereignty of their files as they are stored locally. This increases security while removing the need to migrate files to proprietary cloud storage or maintain other infrastructure.

“Customers retain control of all the data while sharing and editing files remotely over the cloud without worrying about management,” says Gordon.

Looking ahead, MyWorkDrive is strategically working towards allowing customers to securely access files stored in Azure or AWS file shares without the security concerns of VPN. They are also moving toward using containers, Kubernetes, and other standardized infrastructure so that customers can work on the MyWorkDrive system without managing additional servers, which would greatly reduce their workload.

MyWorkDrive Releases Version 7 with Entra ID and Azure Storage Integrations

Wednesday, August 07, 2024

AN FRANCISCO, -- MyWorkDrive, a leading provider of secure remote file share access software, is thrilled to announce the production release of MyWorkDrive Server 7. This major update introduces seamless integration with Entra ID for native authentication without Active Directory or SAML, along with support for Azure file shares and Blob Storage via API over https.

Key Features of MyWorkDrive Server 7

Entra ID (Azure AD) Identity Authentication: MyWorkDrive Server 7 now supports Entra ID as the identity provider, offering an alternative to traditional Active Directory. This feature allows organizations to leverage Entra ID secure, modern authentication methods. For more information, refer to our Entra ID Identity Guide.

API Connections to Azure Storage with Entra ID identity: MyWorkDrive now supports API connections to Azure Storage (including Azure Files and Azure Blob) as an alternative to SMB. This update improves performance by reducing latency commonly associated with SMB connections to Azure Files and eliminates the need for the SMB protocol which greatly improves speed and access without the need for port 445. For detailed comparisons and configuration options, see our Azure Storage article.

Advantages of MyWorkDrive Server 7

Elimination of Active Directory Dependency: Simplifying the infrastructure for customers using Entra ID.

Improved Performance: Access to Azure Storage via API reduces latency, enhancing performance, even for lower-tier storage options.

Improved Access: SMB Port 445 is typically blocked by ISP's and is not needed when accessing files with MyWorkDrive over https.

Managed Identity Support: Managed Identity is supported for Azure-hosted servers, enabling access to storage accounts without storing credentials on the server.

Entra ID Support: Permissions can be defined using Entra ID users and groups, providing more control without relying on NTFS permissions or storage keys.

Public Sharing: Various public sharing methods are supported, with certain limitations for Azure Blob and Azure File Share when using Entra ID without managed identity.

With the introduction of MyWorkDrive Version 7, enterprises can now securely access Azure Storage using Entra ID credentials with our Mapped Drive, Mobile or Web Browser clients from anywhere.
