2015 DevOps Survey Reveals Beguiling Facts on the Level of DevOps Adoption
LAS VEGAS, NV: ElasticBox and DevOps.com are now ready with the results of the survey that measures the level of DevOps adoption and value. Several DevOps specialists, engineers, and IT managers took part in the survey to reveal some critical facts surrounding the DevOps landscape.
One of the fundamental findings is that this software development platform has come a long way from its initial days. With more than half of the respondents vouching for well ordered DevOps practices; it is considered as a recognized and dedicated function in IT services.
With more than half of the respondents’ primary function being related to DevOps, the study finds collaboration to be the driving factor among DevOps practitioners irrespective of the size of the organization
The survey reports top three DevOps initiatives: Automated build tests (64 percent), Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) (57 percent) and configuration management. Collaboration, infrastructure as code and cloud application management are also seen as key initiatives.
To understand the enterprise expenditure, the survey also concentrated on budgeting. Investigating on ROI factor revealed that 50-60 percent respondents were not able to determine the returns as companies overlooked the total cost of ownership while calculating.
The investigation also disclosed that DevOps practitioners did not consider IT cloud application management to be distinct from overall configuration management.
