Akamai Releases Updates to Ion: Elevates Mobile Content Delivery Performance
CAMBRIDGE, MA: Content Delivery Network service provider, Akamai Technologies has recently pushed major performance updates to its flagship product, Akamai Ion. Countering issues arising around slow performance of website, web-app, and mobile delivery over mobile connectivity, the updated version is aimed at accelerating the performance of content delivery.
The Web Performance Solution, Ion consists of a tightly integrated suite of scalable, performance, and intelligence technologies that are required for real-time web experience optimization across a disparity of users’ devices, locations, browsers, and networks. The new capabilities will focus on administering the mobile audience of Akamai’s customers with added consistency, to address the impediments associated with cellular connectivity and underpowered devices.
The renewed platform will offer more on the subject of compatibility over the emerging HTTP/2 internet protocols, and Akamai has rolled out HTTP/2 support features to all the existing Ion users. Additionally, it comprises of HTTP/2-aware Front End Optimization (FEO), which enables Ion to identify the best possible browser optimization—HTTP/2 compatible or non-compatible—without manual intervention. The updated version of the Ion platform will also display an ability to re-sequence CSS files through its Edge-CSS and Critical-CSS features and deliver CSS files in the order that makes the most sense for a user.
“We would like our software to be on every device—in every home, branch, office, enterprise, and ubiquitous throughout the carriers, so that we can optimize and secure the delivery of online content and applications,” says Dr. Thomas Leighton, Co-Founder and CEO, Akamai. With a vision to be a part of the entire connectivity spectrum, the enhanced Ion platform will help customers to serve their end-users in delivering meaningful video-based marketing content.
Ash Kulkarni, SVP and General Manager, Web Experience Business Unit, Akamai believes that ‘the web’ is constantly evolving, and Akamai ensures to leverage the right tools and technologies to deliver superior experiences to their users.
