Allegheny Health Network Introduces Real-Time Heart Pumping Imaging System
PITTSBURGH, PA: Allegheny Health Network, a health system combining various professionals, introduces hemodynamic transesophageal echocardiography (hTEE) developed by Imacor – a medical device manufacturer company. The new system provides real-time images of patients’ heart to let surgeons aware of recovery progress in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The hTEE comprises a miniature disposable probe, ClariTEE, with customized ultrasound system that can inserted through esophagus. The probe can be directed into stomach and placed for next 72 hours where it can have direct view of heart beating through ultrasound. The system helps surgeon from an ICU team stabilize critically-ill heart patient safely and effectively by having a quick view on generated live image.
The ultrasound technology enables doctor to find out the hidden issue like right ventricular failure. hTEE system with ultrasound facility powers multidisciplinary ICU team including nurses and physicians to analyze the real-time image and use this information to decide on a particular treatment.
“Patients who are recovering from open-heart surgery are at risk for particular problems that may develop while they are recovering in the ICU,” says George J. Magovern, MD, Professor and Chairman, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department, Allegheny Health Network. “Direct continuous visualization of the heart is a key tool in being able to solve these problems and stabilize high-risk patients as quickly as possible.”
